Panama City ratings predictions

Today is the day...

While not actually guessing numbers, I predict Magic will continue their downward slide--especially V100. Island might hold steady but doubtful. 97X??? No educated guess possible. Talk Radio 101 with all their dead air, total lack of cross promotion of their product and sometimes failing to ID the station except at the top of the hour...well, you get the idea.

Powell will see some increase, but still no compelling content. WRBA has gotten back on track playing true classic rock. It does seem like the children who were determining their playlist and other programming have been replaced by someone who understands the target demo. WAKT sounds better than it has in years and WPFM is taking steps in the right direction.

CC will see some slight erosion but I think they will maintain market leadership under the watchful eye of cceng.

Beach 95.1 should show an increase with their new stick and excellent programming. David "gets it" and has done a fantastic job virtually single-handed since the station started.

What do you think?

Dock - I think you have a pretty good idea of what is happening in the market. I will admit that I haven't heard Magic mentioned on these boards much in the last year or two. I didn't know they had gotten worse in sound/quality/delivery, etc. Glad for Beach! Yes for CCENGCHANNEL. Only bad thing is I am not sure Powell subscribes, so some of the numbers might be missing, which will disappoint. Lunchtime with the ratings should be a pretty decent feast, CCENG! It will be interesting to see the way Sunny gets treated and the ripple from it. Looking forward to seeing the results!

Powell subscribed out West, not sure if they will here. There's nothing compelling on the air pretty much anywhere as far as talent on the air. The last time a personality was "water cooler fodder" was some kind of stunt pulled by Kramer on Island. Just my personal opinion but the most entertaining morning show here is John Boy and Billy. PAP has a great morning show but very little of their content appeals to my sick, demented, RF-Fried synapses and neurons.

I can relate to the fried part. My guess is only when CCENG is live and local, it's true entertainment. I haven't heard any of the stations in PC in so long, that I can't offer an opinion. So is the Powell cluster on a shoestring staff and on air schedule? it is probably sadly understandable that the talent is minimal in PC given the number of stations vs. revenue stream. I just turned 50, so there is less and less to listen to that I have the patience for. Last station I listened to down there was Beach. I guess I am just a young hippie. Haha

Sunny seemed to do ok. Wow! PAP was off. Powells country station doesn't show up in the ratings I saw, but their others did. Maic seems to be falling about what Powell is picking up. All in all, a pretty predictable book, I think. PFM and Island are tied.

Some things didn't change, like the CC Top 3 sweep. Kudos, again.

On the other hand, I'd say that this book solidifies Powell's place in the coveted #2 Cluster role. Three of their 4 stations went up (Tibbs, WKNK is their Country station) and the 4th one--Arrow--stayed steady (Arrow has been steady at 3.5 since around 1937). Considering that this batch of stations was hanging by a thread so recently, they've gotta be pretty happy.

And you gotta give Powell credit for pulling WPFM into a tie with Island in the "CHR-Not-Counting-The-Beat" race. Just two years ago we were writing The Great 108's eulogy following the 8.0 to 3.7 beat-down administered by WILN. Apparently they weren't quite as dead as they looked!

(I seem to be having trouble typing--er, keyboarding--this morning. Operator error)!

BTW, not a completely terrible book for Magic. Most of their stations dropped, but are still in decent competitive position. Just not likely that they're doing cartwheels about now...

Not exactly...maybe a 47. ;D new math. Or is that new meth?

The first numbers I saw yesterday left off KINK Country or whatever it is. Odd how so many 4.7's there were. Whoever wrote the list for the website must have missed it because all the numbers ran together. Who is formatting and/or managing Powell and Magic these days? Are they in PC?

I only know one, Tibbs. Melissa Miller is music director for WKNK (used to be WAKT.) Thry call themselves Kick'n 103.5. Melissa and I have corresponded a time or two concerning country
songs/ programming. I am finding that we are listening to Kickin more on our PC trips.

Good call letters, Alan. I still like the stations that go the extra mile and create cool calls. I will check them out online. I always liked the WAKT call letters, but WKNK is even better! Glad you are doing ok, kind sir! Thanks for the info. It's always fun to revisit the old days and even more fun to try to figure the current rating games.

I dunno. WAKT, "Wacked Country", is pretty hard to beat. WKNK, "Kink Country", is just begging to be beat.

Must be the new meth.

Dock Trash, thanks for the kind words. We're hopeful that the upgraded signal has and will continue to help us build Beach 95.1 into an even better station.

Since Arbitron seems to like their ratings data so much that they charge Mafia-style rates for it, we're not subscribing. Fortunately, ownership/management here at Beach Radio understands that determining radio ratings for upwards of 100,000 people on just a couple hundred diaries (if they're lucky to get those back in-tab), is a crap shoot anyway. I learned a long time ago that Arbitron is irrelevant to upper end adult demos, because the only ones who pay that much attention to it are 20-something media buyers who think people over the age of 45 are either dead, dying, broke, or all of the above (obviously not true -- well, except maybe in my case with the broke part!).

Tapscan/Maximiser can make ANY station look good, depending on how you set up the parameters of your ranker. It can also make any station look bad (firsthand knowledge of that, since certain multi-station operators in the market seem to like to do that because they are threatened by a little 25KW radio station with LOCAL programming).

Congratulations to all the PC market stations who had a good book this time around (whoever you are; since 12+ is just a beauty contest!).

MY Predictions:

#1- 92.5 WPAP
#2 95.1
#3 100.1
#4 106.3 (They do have a a signal east of PCB)
#5 105.1 Bob FM
#6 101.1
#7 107.9

I don't think 98.5 will be on the list because it sounds like every other Clear Channel station. These are my predictions and I approve of this message.

I truly love your station, but hearing the noise from 94.9's IBOC signal ruins any chances of me hearing it way out here. I wish you could pick up a stick out here in the Isle of Ft Walton/Destin. Even just a translator. Are you on the IHeart radio app??

Rob. I think CCENG might consider killing your mule after reading this.

Fried mule anyone? 98.5 is not only on the list, it is high on that list.

Try www.******************, Rob. If that doesn't work after you sign up, let me know. FTR #3, over a 7. Didn't tank like expected. Don't use the name: Tibbs or password: mule strobey.

David - haven't said much (of importance) on here lately (like I ever have...) But, I agree with everything you said and you could not have said it better. The folks that make these assertions that once your past 45 you don't rock, live or buy new items, etc., ARE IDIOTS x millions. I can so relate to how false that fact is!!!

I need to listen to the station again. Haven't since I was down there a few years back. Keep fighting the fight and I hope you are doing great.

Sorry, Poledo. Should I fear exile to Navarre Beach after giving out classified information? Yes, I censored this comment from it's O-riginal.
