PANIC @ WARM?

Let's see...blew out Program Director...blew out long-time Morning Man....hired a PD they already fired.

Someone must have brought some "funny" brownies to work for the September Birthday Brunch.

They let McCarthy post a message on the website today.

Mark Christopher is the new morning guy, which has to be what, his 100th different radio gig in the last few months?

Well, maybe they're going Oldies. That way they can play Kokomo.

Who is the new PD?

Carol Handley (former KWJZ PD)

Maybe we will hear more Sade, Anita Baker and instrumental stuff in the next few months...

Sad that Tom McCarthy is gone. He always was a good host, and not too much blabber in the morning. Him and Gina (sp?) the traffic lady would do news and traffic updates all morning long.

There's some significant misinformation going on here. Carol Handley is *not* the new PD, she's running things since there is no OM at Sandusky and Maynard is maxed out with running Click & Movin. It makes sense to bring in someone familar with operations & employees in the building when you're in transition. She may get the gig, but nothing has been--or will be--announced for awhile.

Second, the Mark Christopher move is not a bad one for WARMs format. You've got to anchor AM Drive with a known community engaged talent. What's wrong with Christopher? 100 jobs in last month? OK, someone's bitter... Listen Tom might have been one of the nicest guys in the biz, but mornings sounded horrible with him in there. Good God, Spokane radio sounded better.

Little Boy Blue sounds like he's never been in radio management (or the competition) with a little too much time on his hands.

Well first, Carol may be interim at KRWM, maybe not. But right now, she's still captain of this ship and I'm just giving credit where credit is due right now.

And second, I really don't think 106.9 is going back to Smooth Jazz. Or slipping it in. As an interim PD, I really don't think she has that level of freedom.

Third, it's sad to hear about Tom McCarthy. But radio is a cruel business where NOTHING is sacred. Even the friendliest, nicest guy/gal in the world gets it handed to them....Hope he gets back on his feet again soon.

Because I stated three facts?
1. Laura Dane WAS in process of getting fired (great story about how she was ready & waiting when Marc & HR showed up)
2. Tom McCarthy did mornings for a long time and WAS fired
3. Carol brought in to run things while they sort the details out

Where was I inaccurate?
But taking a moment to respond DOES mean I have too much time on my hands. I give you that one.

There are many angles on doing this, and you it several of the key ones. The experts on this board can draw up their own conclusions on the others.

Undoubtedly a known commodity in Seattle, but I'm sure Kaye liked the fact that he wasn't employed full-time (meaning he could be hired cheap) and there were no moving expenses involved. As talented as Christopher is, there are bigger issues with Warm that should be addressed.

Now that LBB has already responded, I'll offer a comment from the peanut gallery.

It doesn't matter how much experience one has, it's very easy, and justified, to have some contempt for today's corporate radio environment. The barometer is measured in whether you let it overtake you (like it does for a very frequent poster on this board), or whether you just roll with the punches. LBB has shown many times that he is clearly the latter in that case. Whatever he does in radio, or has done in the past, he has shown he knows his stuff.

I leave town for a few days and a thread that is not about Kokomo, KMCQ or HD signals. Why would KRWM do this? The ratings were off a bit, but nothing terrible. Why would STAR talent leave to go to WARM? Are they planning to attack STAR? Isn't that what KLCK is supposed to be doing? Are you sure it is not KLCK they are changing, it is down to 17th or so in the market. I can't believe they would consider going back to Smooth Jazz on WARM ,but maybe on KLCK.

At least it is a thread about a station that matters from a ratings and revenue perspective. I too find LBB's comments, along with AQH and others insightful. I am involved in sales but enjoy commenting on programming from time to time. I miss the other sales guy who posted here before he disappeared from the board.

Any chance people thinking of Christopher as the "Fisher person" going to KRWM? He was KVI, of course, until they dumped smart-talk for all conservative ... making him a Fisher employee who went to on-air @ Warm.

STAR only has three on-air programs; and two weekend part-time trackers and don't think any of them would be leaving.

Do you have a link to the post? I can't find it on the Warm website.
