Party 93.1 Returns!

nd2023

Banned
93.1 WHDR has announced a flip back to dance as Party 93.1, citing the impressive ratings of 93.9 MIA. Hopefully this time, it won't be so neglected as the former Party 93.1. Miami needs a dance station.

Happy April 1!!!

Power 96 is playing its annual April fools joke by recreating "96X". Enjoying the mix of oldies. The new 93.9 MIA should take some cues on how Power 96 does it when they play their old school music.

Pure Dance is not coming back to Miami,,, at least not on that frequency,,, And 93.9 is no where near Dance,, and hasnt been around long enough to determine whether its a failer..(And im sure it will be) or not...

The best we can hope for is more CHR crossovers that Power and Y-100 may pick up, and some Dance in Mixshows... Nobody loves dance music more than me,,, but even though it has a strong following in places like Miami,,, Chicago,, NYC ETC.... it scares away dumb adverts,, and the corperates wont let the big stations play the music... There is some,,, but very little Dance on Power,,, Be glad that Power isnt just a pure Urban for Hispanics and White boys anymore.

I think 93.9 should have flipped to a Dance format,, with some 80s and 90s dance that Power used to play, but not just the same automated, never refreshed Cheap playlist of Party 93.1.... Dance may not have huge numbers, but Rhythmic AC and jack ETC,... they are dying quickly, IDK what CC was thinking by launching that MIA station,,, Dance at least gets the playlist refreshed.... Rhythmic AC and jack FM is just Jammin Oldies for today, and jack is Classic Rock and Oldies for a younger group,, but though the formats could work, none are executed right.. the best Rhythmic AC was KTFM San Antonio, and its just a regular Mainstream AC now... Movin 99.7 San Fran,, and the Movin 104.9 in Anchorage are the only ones I see that may stick around,, and the San Fran one will probably move to a full blown CHR like the Salt Lake City Movin 100.7.

So far, it dies not look like a failure. It's up, again, to a level nicely above that of the smooth jazz format in 25-54.

The model for MIA is WKTU in NY. KTU is consistently in the 5th to 7th range 25-54 in NY, and is a very solid success.

Very good word that Cox is flipping 93 to talk. And this is not an April fool

I'll believe it when I hear it. Besides, Cox doesn't seem have any straight FM talkers, they all appear to be simulcasts of an existing AM station, and since they don't own one in Miami....

There is no difference between a successful FM only talker and an AM, except that the FM one gets better 35-54. If you can get the best syndicated shows, add a local one or two, and that's it. There is no "different" model for FM. What works on AM, works better on FM.

And Cox, with stations like WSB, certainly can run good talkers.

You'll have to pardon my cynicism, all i can think of these days are ways for radio companies to get away with programming in the cheapest way possible.

The only dance music that is currently being played here is on Y-100,that airs from 11pm to 4am. As for 93.9, the only way that they will get big ratings is if they add songs that were huge hits on Y-100, Power 96, and I-95 during the 80's. As long as they continue to repeat the mistakes of the failed Mega 103.5, expect to hear something new on 93.9 very soon.

As long as CC and Cox are owning stations in Miami, it most likely will never happen. CC should flip 105.9 to dance, and move the classic rock format back to 103.5, as SHE 103.5 as it once was. Too bad CC doesn't have common sense to make such a move.

I think dance (house, trance, etc) works well a niche programming and would work well in an evening timeslot on Fridays or Saturdays on a station suited for the audience. I think Y-100 already does exactly that. My personal opinion, dance music 24 hours a day would be spreading it pretty thin but if it were only on once or twice a week as specialty programming it would work, plus it could always be tied into a website or an HD channel that does it 24/7.

As for bringing back WSHE as a classic rocker on 103.5, what's the point? It would just be 105.9's playlist on a different dial position with different calls. Besides, 105.9 has built an audience, it has strong name (and dial number) recognition and all moving it down the dial would serve is creating pointless confusion. Did seeing She flip to granola rock hurt? Yes, but that was a long time ago. Let the legend of WSHE live on, don't try to recreate it. I know a fellow who was a jock at She in the 70s and 80s and the stories he can tell are everything you'd imagine they would be. But trust me, it's never as good the second time around.

Think of it this way, after SHE 103.5 flipped to Planet 103 back in 1995, the frequency has been through the wheel of formats. It has had no luck in maintaining a format for any length of time. SHE 103.5 lasted from 1970-95, a 25 year span. I don't see 103.5 the beat lasting that long. A recreated SHE 103.5 would probaly have better ratings than BIG 105.9 currently has. But then again, CC doesn't have a clue on how to think outside the box. If rock were to return to 103.5, just maybe the wheel of formats for the 103.5 frequency will finally stop spinning.

what are ya talking about? 103.5 is doing good as the beat, if it flipped to rock, it would probally get lower numbers than 94.9

The only station for hip hop that does well is 99 Jamz. The beat can't decide if it wants to be an Urban AC or Urban. 99 Jamz executes the format the way its supposed to be done. By putting out a station thats voicetracked, undecisive, and clueless, its ripe for a format change down the road. Speaking of SHE 103.5, I suppose you don't know the history behind the station. SHE 103.5 was a better programmed rock station than what Zeta was, better than what 93 Rock is today, and better than what Big 105.9 is. The reason why SHE 103.5 isn't around today, is because Paxson Broadcasting began screwing around with the station, causing the ratings to drop, and since then its been a wheel of formats. Had 103.5 not been screwed up, it would have been the second longest running rock station in the country. People who grew up in Miami remember SHE 103.5 very well. It is still fondly remembered to this day. If brought back and programmed well, it would do much better in the ratings than The Beat or Big 105.9 .

Technically PARTY 93.1 IS BACK! Albeit on their HD signal....and it sounds like a dance station should! Also, I spoke to one of my contacts at COX and there is absolutely NO truth to the rumor of an FM talker. My contact is VERY high up in the cluster.

As for a true dance station in Miami.....if it was NOT programmed like a TOP 40 station and more programmed to listen to at work with vocal and radio freindly dance tracks that range form today to the early 90's and lots of freestyle thrown in, the station would work incredibly.

There is a massive demo of tech savv, young adults who are just sick of Miami radio as a whole that crave something like this.

Had Party 93.1 been programmed and tailored to the unique sound of Miami, it would still be on the air today. Automation, no jocks, corporate interference, stupid pop remixes, and too much repetition is what killed Party 93.1 . Making the station sound like " Anywhere U.S.A" will just not cut it here.

Party was programmed to Miami. except for the dance friendly station Cox had in Orlando, they had no other dance station... Party was an original. The real issue is that dance, in the US, is not a successful format unless we look at rhythmic ACs like KTU in NY.
