Paul Grimes

Was saddened to learn that Paul Grimes passed away. I tapped him a few years ago to co-host my pet show on WILK and WSFX. He fought a long battle. RIP Paul.

Yes I was saddened too. I liked Paul. We were friends but never hung around socially. The last time I saw him was years ago at Moon Lake when he was working for the Fish Commission. I did not know he was ill. What was the cause of death? May he RIP.

I recall Paul at WPTS and also WMJW. He was a good air talent and it's a shame e he never got far in the "biz." Some people got him mixed up with Dick Grimes. I do not think they were related. Dick Grimes worked at WGBI, WICK and later WKBW in Buffalo, WIBG in Philly and KQV Pittsburgh. Last time I heard he had worked for Mayor Rizzo in Philly and was later doing magic shows. Paul I had lost track of years ago. I also would like to know the cause of death.

Grimes, Paul David View/Sign Guest Book

Paul David Grimes, 61, of Lake Silkworth was called home to his Lord on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, after fighting a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.

He was born in Kingston on June 5, 1947, and was the son of Mildred Harrison Grimes of Wilkes-Barre and the late Joseph Grimes.

He graduated from Meyers High School in 1965.

Following his dream of becoming a disc jockey, Paul worked throughout the valley at various radio stations beginning in the early 1960s and was known as "The Fat Cat of Record Land" which he was tagged in his early days at WPTS Radio. He also spent time at radio stations WBAX, WMJW, WBRX and Magic 93 to name a few. His radio days lasted until just last year when he and his wife, the former Diane Patrick, co-hosted/ volunteered a weekly live call-in radio show called "The Pet Show" at LCCC.

Caring very much for the environment, he had taken on the position of zoning officer for various municipalities throughout the area in the mid- to late '90s and served as a volunteer deputy waterways conservation officer with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission for almost 14 years.

Paul was an avid golfer and was a member of the PGA.

He proudly served his country as a major in the Marine Corps.

He was a 32nd degree F&AM Keystone Consistory and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 5-15.

Surviving, in addition to his mother and his wife of 37 years, are a brother, Thomas; and nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Lake Silkworth, with the Rev. Joseph Pisaneschi officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.

Friends and family may call at the church from 10:15 a.m. to the time of the Mass at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to his wife to help with past medical and final expenses.

His wife and mother extend a heartfelt "thank you" to the Hampton House staff, nurses and aides who helped keep Paul as comfortable and pain-free as possible with a true compassion for his quality of life during his final days.

I worked with Paul in the early 70's at WPTS; a professional and a gentleman. The fat cat of record land. RIP, Paul. God bless. Your family is in my prayers.

Tom, Paul developed a growth on his brain that took its toll on him over the years. I just blogged about our time working together at scottsanfilippo dot com.

Very nice, Scott. Paul was a big help for us at the SPCA over the last couple of years, he'd devote as much of his show to us as we wanted. "Grimesy" had been a part of the radio landscape in NE PA for so long it really shocked me to learn he was only sixty-one. Paul was one of those guys who literally got started in radio while in high school, and there were more than a few of them in this market. My strongest memories of Paul were at WPTS, where he must have started at the age fifteen or so. It pains me to say that Paul was only a short three years older than me, but I sure do remember listening to him when I was in high school. "The Fat Cat" was well known to all of us who followed that tempting path into broadcasting.

My personal best to Diane; please know that both you and Paul were never anything but very, very nice to me. For that, I thank you. He was a good guy, his journey continues, may it bring him happiness.

Paul's wife Diane just posted on my blog at scottsanfilippo dot com about what happened to Paul over the past few months.

Can't seem to find the blog. Could you please post a direct link or tell us where to find it?

Thanks

Paul and I go way back to the 60's. Gave me my first job at WBRX in Berwick. Weekends, but I got my feet wet. Ended up programming the station after Paul left. He was a great guy and yes he was the "Fat Cat". RIP Paul!
