Paul Harvey affiliates in your area

In the Oxnard-Ventura CA market (#124, next market north of Los Angeles), all three Paul Harvey programs -- morning newscast, noon hour "big" show, and TROTS -- aired on KVEN/1450. ABC Entertainment affiliate.

In Los Angeles proper, network-owned KABC/790.

I seem to recall Harvey's 'The Rest of the Story' running on WGR 550 AM in the mid 80s, but I can't recall if it was early mornings or late afternoons. I know I would listen to it carpooling into work with my father in law.

PH: "And do you know who that chowder vendor was, Americans? Who hand split those cherrystone clams with bruised and cut fingers?" Who created an empire of soup carts in Manhattan?"

Me, exasperated: "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MAN, GET TO THE PAYOFF!!!"

Father in law: "That was an interesting story!"

😁

I wish I could hear reruns of "Rest of the Story" stories I missed. They were online at one time. But even while he was alive, that was stopped. I finally figured out how to hear every episode live or whenever it aired again on the local station. Sometimes I had to stop the car so I wouldn't be getting power line interference.

I know that after Paul Harvey's death, ABC tried to keep it going, does anyone recall who the replacement was? I think it may have been his son, or an ABC radio news anchor that would fill-in for Harvey on a regular basis. Trying to replace the irreplaceable with success didn't happen, as the program seemed to just disappear.
Gil Gross. I think the show was gone in a few weeks.

In the '70s he was literally the centerpiece of the schedule at WVCH Chester PA--they ran brokered religion from sunrise to 12:30, then 15 minutes of Paul, then easy listening until sunset. In nearby Philadelphia, he never seemed to get traction--IIRC, a PD at WWDB once claimed that he got hate mail for running Harvey. I know that WIP and WPEN carried him at times in the '80s, but neither one for long.

Was the chowder vendor/future soup titan named Campbell?

Not only is it 'fishy,' but it's in the middle of *nowhere*. There's enough space on the FM dial to drive a truck through it. Only locals are KSRA, and translators for Your Network of Praise, KBSU-FM, KAWZ, and KMZL (SOS Radio). A few stations make it from Butte and 101.1 KZMT in Helena, a very weak KYSS 94.9 Missoula, and there are also occasional spots where Z103 Idaho Falls and maybe 1-2 more come in from that area.
Very nice people on the other hand - they appreciate the dollars being spent in town.

Mike Huckabee started a similar show which didn't last long (not on ABC). It's not likely ABC would have continued the 15-minute midday slat, which was hard for stations to program around.
Huckabee's show continued until he ran for president and it wouldn't have been ethical for him to do his show while he was a candidate. I think the show ended in 2014 and he sent people to his web site, where for a subscription fee they could continue to hear his commentaries. Supposedly he was paying for his campaign that way. I'm, not accusing him of anything if I'm wrong.

He eventually got a 3-hour talk show. Continuing while running for President would have gotten his stations afoul of equal time requirements.

I believe KSKO McGrath, Alaska may have carried it in the early 80s when the station first launched
It was on my local KVOK 560 Kodiak Alaska during 80s and 90s, and was also carried on the Alaskan Forces Radio Network with its' repeaters all over Alaska. I believe it was also on KFQD 750 Anchorage.
