Paul Marshall

Yes, Congratulations to Paul.

STEREOBRAIN (who is he?) says: "FMQB has naimed him rock format program director"

Please note that it is Music Director not program director.

Not to slight Paul, but I've always advised those who find Boston too competitive to get to the smaller cities and be the big fish in the little pond. The Neander hair seems to be missing! How corporate.

Music Directors generally take their orders from the P.D.

These FMQB / BILLBOARD / radio awards across the board are suspect because six companies run the entire thing. Remember when WBCN kept getting "awards" yet had little to show for it. Not to minimize Paul's achievement - getting fired from one station and a few crumbs from another only to land on his feet in...Kansas.

It would be nice to see FMQB looking at some of the more independent stations - stations not owned by the CCC - the cookie-cutter conglomerates. As Mark Parenteau said about Oedipus, it is pretty easy these days to "pick the hits" as you know what discs are being promoted to you (I'm paraphrasing Mark, of course).
What is the criteria these days for being a "Music Director" ? Everything not on Sirius or XM seems so
colorless and homogenized.

But - be that as it may - Congratulations, Paul. Better to be Music Director of the Year in Kansas than a former news person on WLVI TV Channel 56 Boston at Christmastime, 2006. Or even a former news person on 680 AM WRKO this Holiday season.

Nice to see Joe congratulate Paul and plunge daggers into his back in the process. The real question is, where do former Public Access TV stars go when that market becomes too competitive?

Never can you swallow your pride, be a true man for just one second and sincerely recognize somebody on their accomplishments. It's truly sickening. It could have been left at where you corrected that he was an music director, not pd.

These awards are hack awards; we discussed this when Mistress Carrie received a similar one.

It isn't just radio - a Library Director with enough political clout can get "Library Director of the Year",
FMQB might get full page ads we don't know about from Entercom and feel obligated to sprinkle "awards"
to various executives in order to "share the wealth".

Paul plays the game; he was humbled in Boston, but he's taken his medicine from them and he has his award now for being a good old company boy.

If the "Django" types of the world want to lash out because the messenger is just putting the story straight, well, we kind of expect that.

Anyone with a strong self-image doesn't need some "award" to tell them they have value.

Will Paul Marshall change the face of rock music? That's the kind of person that deserves an award.
Right now we all hear the same old same old on radio. YouTube, MySpace and PureVolume.com have
far more compelling things for us to see and hear. Things that are new, fresh and exciting.

The radio audience is diminished, the commercials are absurd, and big business owns everything lock, stock and barrel. The last real innovator was Howard Stern - or maybe Kamal and Johnny B of The Jerky Boys.

Congratulations on your "award", Paul. The Wizard of Oz has a Testimonial, a heart watch, and a big balloon for you too. After all - you're in Kansas - where Dorothy wanted to get to in the first place.

At least we know they didn't give the awards out for looks, however, there are a couple of cuties in there:

Lance Ballance/WMC Memphis

Kevin Weatherly
KROQ/Los Angeles

Jim Kurdziel
WEDG/Buffalo

and maybe Justin Chase...
KMXB/Las Vegas...

yum!

If you see THEM at the Awards Party, Paul, tell them I'd like to..ahem...personally congratulate them.

It's no different than any of the multitudes that "set the story straight" when they point out that public access television and blogs are neither influential nor paying jobs. Go ahead and post your meager resume in your usual feeble attempt to dispute the "story". Your post count does not indicate you have any credibility, just free time.

Thanks to all for the kind words. Nice to be recognized. Appreciate it.

FYI Joe...hair's still there. It was back in a ponitail when that pic was taken.

Why does Joe Vig care so much about how other men look. Insert Dave Scondras sound fx here.
