These awards are hack awards; we discussed this when Mistress Carrie received a similar one.
It isn't just radio - a Library Director with enough political clout can get "Library Director of the Year",
FMQB might get full page ads we don't know about from Entercom and feel obligated to sprinkle "awards"
to various executives in order to "share the wealth".
Paul plays the game; he was humbled in Boston, but he's taken his medicine from them and he has his award now for being a good old company boy.
If the "Django" types of the world want to lash out because the messenger is just putting the story straight, well, we kind of expect that.
Anyone with a strong self-image doesn't need some "award" to tell them they have value.
Will Paul Marshall change the face of rock music? That's the kind of person that deserves an award.
Right now we all hear the same old same old on radio. YouTube, MySpace and PureVolume.com have
far more compelling things for us to see and hear. Things that are new, fresh and exciting.
The radio audience is diminished, the commercials are absurd, and big business owns everything lock, stock and barrel. The last real innovator was Howard Stern - or maybe Kamal and Johnny B of The Jerky Boys.
Congratulations on your "award", Paul. The Wizard of Oz has a Testimonial, a heart watch, and a big balloon for you too. After all - you're in Kansas - where Dorothy wanted to get to in the first place.
At least we know they didn't give the awards out for looks, however, there are a couple of cuties in there:
Lance Ballance/WMC Memphis
Kevin Weatherly
KROQ/Los Angeles
Jim Kurdziel
WEDG/Buffalo
and maybe Justin Chase...
KMXB/Las Vegas...
yum!

If you see THEM at the Awards Party, Paul, tell them I'd like to..ahem...personally congratulate them.
