Paulson going to K rock? is that true???

I just read somewhere else (A redundant thread in this forum) that perhaps Paulsen would have been even more valuable to Infinity on KDKA, where he might be able to get members of younger demographics to actually switch their radios back over to AM. That makes some sense.

Perhaps Infinity might start using KDKA and the newly cast "K-Talk" on 93.7 in a more coordinated manner, with Paulsen doing a regular program on K-Talk as well as having some presence over on KDKA as well.

I think at the very least K-Rock will be gone. Infinity had the WBZZ calls parked on AM 1010 in Tampa (1010 the Buzz while Stern was there... now it's back to being the worst sports station on the North American continent), so 93-7 The Buzz with O&A, McIntyre, Paulsen and others is a definite possibility.

I tend to agree that K-Rock as we know it will be more of a Free-FM in the near future, possibly as long as April when Paulson can begin. Unfortunately McIntyre will probably get a gig out of it. How about some former KDKA personalities showing up at K-Talk that were let go last year too? A local sports talk show to go up against Ellis Cannon would most likely be in the works if a new K-Talk does develop. Heck, bring back Thor. ::)

LOL--now I have coffee to clean up!

Forget dirty minds, a cup of coffee is a really terrible thing to waste.

No dispute on that. Given the prevalence of the Internet, I'm surprised more stations don't pronouce the decimal point as "dot", as in "The Buzz @ 93 dot 7".

But then, I can't see where using some sort of "clever" name instead of just the call letters helps stations all that much, unless they aggressively promote the new name in places in addition to on their own air.

You forgot Kid Chris in the afternoons. So, we've already got their lineup set.

O&A - 6-10
10-3 - McIntyre?
3-7 - Kid Chris
7-11 - Scott Paulson
11-6 a.m. - Undercover Club (just kidding)

I believe CBS only has the O & A show from 6-9 on commerical radio. That gives an opportunaty for two more talk show hosts from 9-12pm and 12pm-3.

I have only heard about an hour total of O&A because of my work schedule. Kid Chris I've heard less of, and don't think Pittsburgh will suffer if they stop syndicating his show either.

I'm all in favor of an FM Sports/Talk station like an ESPN Radio on the FM dial. Paulson would be good at that too. (I wish Ellis Cannon was on for more than 2 hours a night).

I like your idea, Realist. Here's another: Cary Simpson at the Allegheny Mountain Network in Tyrone has all of his stations include the web address in with their station ID's. Nice idea.

I too would like to see an all FM sports station. I did suggest before in an earlier thread about moving ESPN Radio to FM. A lot of people on this board didn't think it would work. Since this is a big sports town, I would give it a try. Could you imagine Mark Madden on the FM dial?

A good reason to turn of the radio if he was on. Tunch and Wolf would be an awesome show for an FM Sports station.

Why? FM's superior sound quality makes a difference when you're listening to music, but on talk programming, what's the big deal? I mean, if own several stations and have a spare FM stick that hasn't done very well with other formats, you might as well try putting talk on it. But how does being on the FM band bring anything extra to any spoken word format?

Could you imagine Mark Madden on the FM dial?

I can't imagine Mark Madden even using Dial. Or Irish Spring.

I would imagine that on FM, he would sound like an arrogant blowhard. Come to think of it, that's also what he sounds like on AM.

Radio Realist, I'd much prefer to hear the superior sound quality while listening to Talk/Sports over an AM signal that fades in and out depending on the radio propagation.

The rest I totally agree with you about the Mark Madden comments!

Speaking of Mark Madden,
I know his contract is up less than a year. I hope they don't renew him. He without a doubt is very replaceable. I also agree with Radio Realist about the Mark Madden comments.

I wonder if double M is that crude off the air.

Who do you think would be a good candidate to replace Mark Madden if he leaves ESPN?

Pretty much anyone would be better than Madden. As for his personal life, I do know one of his neighbors that I work with who cannot stand MM. And, MM used to be Big Ben's next door neighbor...how humiliating would that be??

No argument on that score. But given that there are a finite number of FM stations, and a finite number of AM stations, how much sense does it make for a broadcasting company that owns multiple stations to use one of their FM sticks for a format where the sound quality doesn't matter very much compared to using that FM stick for a format where sound quality is important?

I'd much prefer to hear everything I listen to in superior sound quality. I'd like to see the AM band closed and replaced with another FM band. Or, I'd like to see the new HD AM, with its promise of better reception, gain widespread use. I'd also prefer it if at least one FM station played more of the music I like, and I'd prefer it if the local TV stations hired really hot looking women to do weather reports dressed in really small bikinis.

I doubt of any of those things will happen just because I would prefer them.

I live in Cranberry Twp. and can hardly hear AM 970, so an FM sports station would be great for me and will deliver a much better coverage area too.

Re: 93.7's future. Anyone know if Kidd Chris' Philly station is a FreeFM'er?

Last Tuesday, I clearly heard a woman's vioce say: "this is FreeFM" when they went to break. Don't know if it was KROK's announcement or Chris'. Haven't heard it since...

I don't know if K-Rock said "this is FreeFM" because I don't listen to Chris, but I do know that WYSP-FM in Philly is a FreeFM station. We were out that way in November on a weekend, and they were playing music, mostly the kind that we'd hear locally on K-ROCK. I wonder if there was a screw up at the K-ROCK studio in the simulcast.

Gee, if K-ROCK goes to talk, will we lose Bob O'Reilly?? Maybe this will be a good thing if it happens.
