Pcola Spring Book

Spring 11 is out for Pensacola and there are a couple of big stories.

Cumulus' Uban Twins, Magic & BLX, take #1-#2 in a market that's 84 percent Caucasian. Considering that both have done well for years now, it's not that big a shock, but still. Maybe a reflection of how the Country, CHR and AC formats have become so splintered with so many stations each taking a bite.

And in Country, Cat whips XBM. This happened once before, didn't it? This time though it might mirror some dissatisfaction with 102.7's loss of Linda Lawrence. Lot of listeners liked her.

And how about 95.7 K-Love? From #13 to #6, fall to spring? Beating the Rocket, ABB, MEZ, COA--and doubling JLQ. A fluke? Not so sure. Could be right format, right market. See Orlando.

The Groove? Tied with two FWB stations and behind WZNS--just ahead of Papa Don. It may still be too early, but it may be safe to say that the new R/CHR didn't make a big splash. Not a good book for any kind of CHR with ABB at #8, JLQ at #13 and RGV at #15. But it might be time for Cumulus to put a fork in i100.7.

Typo alert: Yeah, yeah, I know how to spell "Urban." Flunked typing, though. And I guess Cumulus calls their #13 CHR "i100," don't they? Hey, I'm out of the demo!

Rather interesting book. That CHR thing is just a mess. Seems all 3 stations are pretty quiet right now promotion wise. Something has got to pop somewhere. Only question is who and what?

Well let's consider what could be going on in the Pensacola market might not be going in the Mobile market. Even though it's not showing how 'ABB, BLX, etc is doing in it's own hometown, of Mobile, which to me is CONFUSING and ODD... It's so interesting- might as well or maybe put the Mobile/Pensacola market as one market.

Let's begin: I agree, let's indeed put the fork in i100. Cumulus CHR's: SUCK. I hate it for the Citadel stations and knowing what they might not be getting into. I don't know why Soft Rock 94.1 is not doing well either. I personally think Lite Mix's music rotation is quite weak. They don't sound good at all. It's just too bad. But thanks to iHeartRadio, I can listen to better AC sounding stations where they actually produce flavor with Flashback tunes during the weekends.

Also, again - 107.3 the Groove is just not what you will call a station playing Eminem, Nicki Minaj, Lupe Fiasco, and so on as "Groovy." What are they thinking? Someone mentioned in an earlier thread that the management team just "did not want to confuse the listeners." Hmm, I don't even know if your attracting of the listeners in the first place. C'mon Clear Channel.

WABB is fine. They will stay even if they are in last place. It's local. They really have no national company on their backs. It's local and it's a good thing....for now.

96.1 would be a great Classic Hits station as the one in Jacksonville's Majic 107.3.
That is all. Care to disagree. I just see radio in a different way than a lot of y'all. I don't like what's on the radio and If I was responsible for any such changes, there would be changes right away.

Isn't Jack 104.1 considered "Classic Hits"? or is it "Variety Hits"?

Why in the world would you want the area's only Classic Rocker to flip formats? Leave the Rocket alone.

The reason 107.3's numbers suck now is because we can't pick up the damn station in Pensacola anymore now that they moved in with the neighbors.

K-Love is a real shock. Remember how much non-com competition they have? This one gives me the impression that diary placement was off. No way they really beat WCOA. Now if 95.7 was carrying Navarre High School football on Fridays.... I'd believe it.

I thought Papa Don had the weakest lineup of the four local news/talkers... I think they only had a couple weeks notice to put together the lineup of unwanted shows after CNN dropped them, yet he beat out WEBY and WNRP. Wow.

And what's wrong with WAAZ? The best station around is way down at the bottom of the list. The folks with diaries have poor taste in music.

Does the rocket's signal even reach FWB?

Where's the link for the ratings, please. Thanks!

Top right hand side of this page Rob. Look for the word "Ratings."

It's "Variety Hits"
And now I know why 107.3 is in the Mobile cluster of CC stations because they play the same songs over and over. When it was in Pensacola, it used to be great. It's a shame that 'My" was flipped.

I find this rather interesting how a small mom & pop can kick the asses of the big giants. WTG WWAV..Despite you have the "two songs played in mono.. one in stereo" effect.. Your probably the only station I really listen to anymore.

Coast is good during the weekends because they play crap during the week, (wish they brought the vinyl back out) but.. out of all the radio stations I do enjoy.. is 102.1.

Now that I got Pandora on my droid, I'll probably be listening to that.

Radio just isn't the same anymore. I'm tired of the blah ness this area has. When I first moved here, really liked oldies 92.1 reminded me of the Syracuse oldies station we listened to (also on 92.1.. and still is)
