PD at DAVE-FM

Many of you have been critical of my constant slamming of Michelle Engle, the Program Director at DAVE-FM. You claim that all I do is point out the flaws this woman has as a programmer yet offer nothing constructive. Point taken? In the past I have offered my $.02 on how to improve the station. Now I am ongoing one step further. Today, May 31, 2007, I announce my candidacy for the Program Director's job at 92.9 DAVE-FM. I know for a fact that many people inside Colony Square, headquarters of CBS Radio Atlanta, read my posts (Raoul the fixings guy at Moe's is one and Dr. Poole the dentist is another.) These people have pull and can make this happen for me.

I have many bold initiatives designed to increase listenership, ratings and conversely, ad sales. Here are but a few:
1) A new morning show within my first month as PD.
2) Out: The Cars, Tom Petty and INXS. In: Todd Rundgren, Wilco and Aimee Mann.
3) The station will be known as Radio Atlanta; "Dave" will be retired.
4) The jocks will be forbidden to tease songs with that stupid, "Up next, a guy who used to pick his nose in the third grade, can you guess who it is?"
5) Dave After Tomorrow will return!

Those five moves alone will get the station above a 2.1. Possible even crack the top ten in their two key demos.

After spending many hours listening to DAVE-FM; I know what is wrong with it. I listened to WXRT-FM, Chicago for twenty years; I know how to program 92.9 FM the right way. The real winners will be you the listeners and the advertisers. I am asking for your support. If you know higher-ups at CBS Radio Atlanta, call them to and let them know, ff you deal with salespeople for that station, tell them help is on the way. The Real Other Neil wants to be the PD at the New 92.9 FM, Radio Atlanta.

It's nice that you have ideas, and listen to the station. Pardon my rudeness, but are you an experienced programmer? You didn't list any qualifications. We have a saying in the biz..."everybody's a PD."

Experienced.. like the current PD who can't crack the top 10 in key demos? I'm running for PD like Ross Perot ran for Prez in 1992. "If I can't grow the GDP by 2% than I should be fired."

You have my vote sir.

One small request. Please bring back the Grateful Dead Hour at midnight on Sundays. Not a huge request for such an under listened time of day. What harm could it really cause. The current regime believes Radio without Rules means they limit their jam band catalog to Widespread Panic. Make a Sunday night free for all. Liten Steven;s. the GD hour some other weekly music shows. Even bring back and I know I will be raked over the coals for this Dr. Demento. Mix it up on Sunday night bring some new people to the station and work on getting them to stick the rest of the week.

Also I can hardly wait to hear Mara and Baron in the Morning.

Will you please program the station in my brain? I love Dr. Demento, the Dead, Silvio's Bada Bing radio show, and chocolate.

I can't give it all away now but I promise to be "kind" to all.

The Sunday line-up would be:

6am-7pm - Station on shuffle with the entire library available for airplay (this is an idea that 99X got right.)
7pm-8pm - House of Blues Radio Hour
8pm-9pm - Grateful Dead Hour
9pm-11pm - Little Steven's Underground Garage
11pm-1am - Dr. Demento

What do you know, The NEW 92.9 Radio Atlanta just got a higher rating on Sunday nights than it does during the regular week.

You need a morning show most importantly. Who? How about afternoon drive?

How about The Opie & Anthony, JV & Elvis, Imus in the Morning Zoo?

Michael Vick's Doghouse?

6am-9am O&A
9am to 3pm station on shuffle
3pm to 7pm Toucher and Rich
7pm to 6am station on shuffle

Most people want to be entertained when they drive to work and when they drive home.
They want music in between those times.

Step away from the bong.

I will put money on Z93 returning as a CHR.

Big Personalities.

Research can be scary.

Dave is a failed experiment, unless they involve Dennis from KINK in Portland. BTW I love AAA.

Remember, Dan Mason (ages ago) used to program Z93 as a CHR. The CHR in Atlanta is abysmal at best.

Ugh. Just what Atlanta needs, another station playing disposable music. They could take it 100% AAA and still bill top dollar along with maintaining their market share.

Neil, Dr. Poole is in the 100 Building. You're going to need some support in the 400 Building. Ask David at Goldberg's to hook you up with someone.

Dave, Z93, or whatever will have their work cut out for ‘em. It’s gonna be a challenge to get me tuned in. I have gigabytes of my favorite music on mp3, XM with everything under the sun, and a few old fashioned CD’s.

What this town needs is a station like 96Rock from back in the day. Not the same playlist as 1979, but the same attitude. They promoted and actually played local bands. Anybody remember the Hot 'Lanta Home Cookin’ albums?

Bottom line, it has to be something that I can’t get anywhere else.

The cause is gaining momentum. I had a meeting with a major Atlanta radio personality yesterday at an historic Midtown location. He applauded my candidacy and gave me his full support. While I can't give his name, let's just say he's very tall and "natural." I asked him to hand out campaign buttons but he balked, only because Radio Atlanta is a competitor of his current station. My candidacy has heads scratching in the DAVE-FM music department too.

In other news, how funny is it that 99X is now giving away a trip to Bonnaroo? That festival is DAVE-FM PD Michelle Engle's pride and joy. Every year CBS radio wastes a few thousand dollars to send her there and report on a festival that features two bands that DAVE-FM actually plays.

To answer some questions:
Roddy; I plan on doing a major get out the vote rally in building 400 soon.
Dixie; professional PD, like Michelle? She can't get her station into the top ten her her core demos. If CBS Radio were paying attention, she'd be fired. Read Jack Welsh's "Wining."
Bing; I have some ideas for a morning show. I am thinking of a duo currently doing sports but could make an easy transition to current events/pop culture. If I were to get them, let's just say that the place would have a great garlic smell.
Weasel; I will add Wilco. As for the Mike Vick Doghouse, it's an option though we would probably need to do that as a remote since Mikey may be a guest of the state for a while.

Get on the Neil for PD at Radio Atlanta Bandwagon now.

I am starting to think you are channeling my thoughts. Ahh the Bottom Line on the FM dial one can only dream.
