ChoiceFM

We wanted to. But there was just no financial support for it. We do still have one affiliate though that we program. It's WCFS-LP in Du Quoin, IL that runs the AC version of ChoiceFM. You can listen to it here:

Hey Miracle, looks like you've taken some lumps on your equipment request. While a few of the posters may have an issue with your post, let me say that I admire your guts.
You see, not everyone is willing to come into a public forum and appear to beg the way that you have. And that may be the cause of your frustrations with those who have been critical.
If I could offer a modicum of advice, you might want to re-tool you "beg" to a more positive appeal to those of us here who might have closets full of serviceable gear. Get up off your hands and knees and hold your head high! Instead of portraying your request as something that could be misunderstood as begging, you might want to lead with the fact that you are a bona fide 501c3. That means something to a commercial operator with a few pieces of gear laying around. To me, I could write off the donation, clean out my storage area, and perhaps feel good about assisting another broadcaster.
In our rush to focus on our love of broadcasting, some of us may lose sight of the goals we have set, and may become remiss in remembering that to many of us this is a business and not a hobby.
Speaking from experience, keep your business professional, and you will be treated as a business professional.
Best of luck with your equipment search.

Hi Douglas B.

I never was begging. I actually mentioned that I was willing to BUY but was also interested in donations as well. I simply don't know how else to say it. Everyone interprets one's posts in different ways. That's the trouble with forums and email. No one hears your voice, nor do they even know you. Seems that many "Radio Folks" are Real Quick to judge. It gets real frustrating!

Your advice is well taken and appreciated though.

Hope all had a great Christmas.

For whatever it is worth, I've found that a lot of broadcasters are very nice folks who are very generous with stuff they no longer need. It is not all junk. There so lots of good stuff sitting in closets that is the result of consolidation or updates to digital technology. For small stations, analog works just fine.

The LPFM I manage has received numerous donations from my friends in radio. Even though we can usually afford to purchase what we need (or we can figure out how to do without until we can afford it) those donations have been very much appreciated. Budgets tend to be finite, and anything you don't have to spend on equipment can be spent on programming. That's a good trade in my opinion.

The assistance of a lot of nice people in broadcasting has helped in our success. Truth be known, our facilities are better than a lot of small commercial stations. Sure, we do have 501(c)(3) status, but I think that most donations that have come our way are simply because I've been lucky to have a lot of friends in the industry, and those friends happen to be very nice people. Getting a tax deduction was probably a secondary consideration.

By the way, "Miracle" happens to be one of those people who has donated time and resources to our station. He is a good guy.
