Pending Doom For Talk 1200 In Boston

Racoon is so protective of AM 1200 because he is still holding out hope that someday they may carry his hero Dennis Miller on a daily basis.

BTW, NPR does not receive direct taxpayer funds. They receive a small amount of funds when they successfully compete in a competitive bidding process for grants from the CPB.

I believe that very small amount of money is much better spent than the 96 million dollars that annually go to support an outdated obsolete agency called the United states Postal Service.

If you believe that the programming on 1200 is better than what is heard on NPR I seriously question your taste. You may not agree with some of the perceived liberal bent but to call the programming on 1200 better is laughable.

Do you know when Beck will be doing his next Woodrow Wilson Hour?

It certainly looks to me that Katz is spending more time reading radio-info than improving his own show.
Glad to see the truth that I wrote today shows up on his Facebook page , he spends way too much time on that nonsense.
How about your show ? roflmao !

My sources within the walls of 10 Cabot Rd. confirmed to me tonight that there was no meeting of any Talk 1200 staff members today - Jeff knows he has been caught and he is just covering for himself. What a shame.

All I know is that at 9:59 am Jeff was pulling out of the parking lot of Clearchannel in his silver Mercedes with a "I support police" emblem on the side window.

Maybe he was going to the store to buy some more chocolate Muscle Milk that he drinks during his show. Let me tell you there is not once ounce of muscle on that man's body.

I will report once again tomorrow as to what time his silver Mercedes leaves the lot. Now that I think of it he must be pulling down a nice chunk of change to drive a vehicle like that. More funds wasted by Clearchannel.

I hope Jeff rented his home , he will be moving shortly.

He must have gotten the job you wanted...? :)

How can a guy at 1200 afford a Mercedes? Does a Mercedes dealer do a deal with him like Olsen
Cadillac does with Howie? Could believe the part about "I Support Police"--former officer.

Maybe he's moving to WTKK to take Severin's slot, but I think he'll be gainfully employed at Clear
Channel for some time to come. If 1200 does go under maybe he can DJ at Kiss, I don't know.

How about shooting an anonymous video of it and sending it to TRI - or, better yet, TMZ?

I was thinking the same thing but one could change the time stamp to make it appear he's leaving at 9:59 when it's really later ::)

And I predict that two years and two months from _today_ (middle of 2013), Raccoon, who, by then, will be up to r-i.com post #13,000 (at least), will be posting message #200 (at least) in THIS very thread. That message will say exactly the same thing that all of his other posts in this thread have said. This thread is already WAY past its stale date! It desperately needs a rest.

We'll have to see if Brian Maloney/Save WRKO's current thread--started on 4/26/10--gets to 1,000
comments. I don't know if he forgot the password but he has not created any threads/posts since then,
and when it looked like the domain name expired, he apparently renewed it...yet has not offered
anything new. In fact even his regular Radio Eq. blog seems to totally overlook Boston radio--
he had NOTHING about Severin's firing etc. I started a ProBoard messageboard for the regulars
on SaveWRKO...seems to be getting some action. Meanwhile, the thread Brian M started almost a year ago inches toward 1,000 posts

WHJJ is Prov following lead of 1200, extending local host (Helen Glover) to 10 am, hour taken from Beck (is he leaving radio show too?)

For the record - Helen's show is being extended at the other end.. From Monday she is starting at 6am, running to 10am.. Beck's two hours on WHJJ will not be altered..

Regards

Jazzy! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Should we expect spy reports of Helen pulling into the CC/Providence compound at 5:59 AM? ::)

OK, I stand corrected on that one! (Helen Glover)

If 1200 is still talk by late 2012 (possible) and if they can land Howie (who knows; RKO may wind up beating out TKK and 1200, but anything's possible), would we see a Howie network with some
CC talkers (if he does pm drive again--he'd like am drive--they could delay Hannity to 6 pm)? WGIR, WHJJ, WTAG, etc., plus his other stations around New England? (Now that I think of it isn't WHYN, which carries him already, Clear Channel?) Or if Howie were to sign and get mornings, Katz could do afternoons (or fly off to RKO, TKK, etc.)
Of course CC's success with music FMs (Kiss, Jam'n) means you won't get Talk 1200 simulcasting on or moving to FM...btw yet another simulcast may be on the way, in Cleveland where a translator may move and start simulcasting WTAM 1100. A trend.

Since the day they turned it on AM1200 hase been a waste. Lets be honest, when it was progressive talk it had a .8 rating. Doing right wing talk is has a .2 and thats with a much improved signal. CC's move of Limba from WRKO was a bad move. While I wouldnt be caught dead listening to him (or ANY of the people on 1200) at least they had listeners to the broadcast. Another AM talk station was THE last thing Boston area listeners need. WRKO is wallowing, WTKK, even on FM is not doing gangbusters. If I may make a prediction I think they will pull the plug on 1200 in the next 6-12 months. If WRKO can hang on til then they MAY get the shows back.
Now as for what to do with 1200? If stations would get over the "Consultants tell us to do.....(fill in the blank)" and be gutsy like radio was in the 1960's and 1970's it would make radio FUN again and a compelling reason to tune into stations.
What would I do with it? Again the consultants wouldn't agree but I would revive WMEX (I know the calls are tied up on a CP on tha cape) but maybe as WMMX or WIMX or something similiar and go OLDIES! Between LIVE in AM & PM drive you could pick up a satellite with that sort of music OR automate it. Those of us over 50 grew up listening to music on AM. It WOULD work! No it wouldn't have WBZ type or FM type numbers but it would have better numbers than a .2. I programmed WNTN in 1979 and even as a daytimer with a challenging signal (despite have 10K) we had a 2.1! I beat several FMers like (at the time 98.5 WROR). It can be done. Does anyone have the guts to do it?

I could predict doom for any of the talkers except WBZ which is mostly news anyway but we'll have to see. Is talk bringing in money for Ent. with RKO? They have Howie till fall of '12. Would they dare shift or better yet simulcast to FM (97.7?) to try to get more and younger listeners? What does Ent. do if not talk--
not espn (dilutes their sports talk aud. on WEEI plus we're provincial here, people want local)--what else, true oldies? ethnic? business?

WTKK-- Graham and E&B still under contract and GM may be stuck paying for rest of Jay's contract. Do they try music (...what?). If 1200 changed maybe they could pick up some Premiere shows. Picture E&B, Beck and/or Hannity, Rush, Coast to Coast on 96.9, if 1200 changed. 1200, they are clearing spots and shows; signal OK for some, bad for others, and an FM move? Nope, not to
94.5 or 107.9. If GM sold 96.9 to CC (doubtful), maybe...as I said, Rush and CTC on a 96.9.

Your suggestion of oldies on 1200--could work, and is it a desirable demo? About the same as what talk does (other than poss. younger listeners on FM, but this is AM). When we had the Brad and Bonnie Bleidt situation on WBIX 1060 I suggested switching to oldies as "BIX-106" :)
Now it's the Station of The Cross

To be honest, many of us who grew up with music/pop on AM might soon be in rest homes or six feet under. OK, I'm 49, but I mean a bit older than me. CC could run oldies on 1200 and get ratings sim. to what they get now but they would rather clear their Premiere shows and get some national ad money.

Talk 1200... shouldn't feel too bad. They are one tenth of a percentage point ahead of WOKQ Dover, N.H., WWBB, and WSNE, Providence.

It'll be interesting if WALE in Providence gives 1200 a run for their money!

Nothing in recorded history will ever come close to the abomination that is WALE. ;)

By that comparison, 1200 is doing decently... but that's like calling yourself the World's Tallest Little Person. Means nothing.
