Penske Media acquires remaining Vox Media brands

Note this deal puts Variety in the same stable with Vox under this deal.

Penske Media Corporation has acquired the rest of Vox Media that it did not already own, including sports-focused SB Nation, tech publication The Verge and the animal-centric website The Dodo.

The deal, announced Thursday, also includes outlets like Eater, Punch, Pop Sugar and Thrillist. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Penske Media is already the largest owner of entertainment trade publications — Variety, the Hollywood Reporter and Deadline Hollywood — and legacy brands like Rolling Stone. The company is also the owner of Dick Clark Productions, which produces shows like the Billboard Music Awards, the American Music Awards and the Golden Globes.

The sale follows a separate deal announced in May that saw Vox Media sell New York magazine, Vox.com and its podcast business — including popular shows like “Pivot” — to Lupa Systems, the investment firm founded by James Murdoch. As part of that transaction, longtime Vox Media Chief Executive Officer Jim Bankoff agreed to join Lupa and lead its media operations.

hard to believe that this company is founded by the son of Roger Penske, owner of the Penske empire which includes Penske Transportation Services, Penske Automotive Group, Penske Entertainment (the parent company of IndyCar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which Roger bought out in 2019) and Team Penske (his motorsports teams in NASCAR, IndyCar, IMSA)

it's also likely that Jay Penske may also have conservative politics leanings like his racing mogul father who is a known Trump Supporter.

True I heard of Penske Auto dealerships in Southern California.

So far I never heard of Jay Penske hiring people like Bari Weiss to be the chief of their publications in the same way we hear about the Ellisons running Paramount and likely WB if finalized. But then again Jay Penske is running his publications well in this case such as the best chief editors and presidents who have some print experience as we seen so far.
