Petition to get Dick Biondi back on at 7PM

Tom Wells said:
And putting them on AM and FM would help. The 30-some states coverage is important.

WLS does not get consistent night coverage in anywhere close to 30 states any more. Maybe 6 or 8, and it is irrelevant because the audiences are so small and radio is not bought across markets but in specific local markets. Finally, who under 70 would listen to music on AM at night via skywave anymore?

Biondi was on at 9PM not 11PM for his WLS-AM shift. Most of us can't hear him at this new time.

Sure you can. You just choose not to. Or you could Tivo his show and listen to it any time. But instead you want the station to change to accomodate you.

Or better yet dump the morning show which does not have good ratings and put JRL there.

The style and pacing of a morning show is different from an evening show. They are not interchangable. You can't take a talent who has always been on in evenings and make him a morning man. Same with Biondi. You can't make him a morning man either.

Landecker did mornings at several stations including WJMK for over 10 years. You can't tell me that he can be worse than the people they have on now.

I suspect he signed a contract, and I'd imagine the contract specified the airtime. Most do.

Funny thing is on the webstream they are still running promos for Biondi's request show. "Join me this Friday and every Friday at 7."

I used to listen to Dick Biondi when he was on WLS all the way from San Diego, about 2 blocks from the Pacific. The station had fading but when it was fading in it blasted! Also listened to him from KRLA in Los Angeles while he was there. "The wild eyed Italian". Once when he was on KRLA he got a request call from a listener in Lancaster, Cal, about 40 miles no. of LA, but he didn't know that, the only Lancaster he knew was in Pa., and he was surprised the KRLA signal made it all the way to Pa. The great stations of my youth include WLS among WABC and KFWB and KHJ, and lots of others. I am very glad to hear Dick Biondi is still among the congregation of the living.

Sucks it's gone now. At least I am able to stay up late enough to listen to Dick during his new hours. I will miss having him on during the evening hours.

Dick's request show on Friday nights was the best program on Chicago radio.

Here's my take on this: Dick's listeners are pissed because he's on at a time when they're in bed. Dick isn't any younger than his listeners, so he's probably in bed too. Or do you really think an 80 year old man is doing live radio at 11PM? I think live radio was getting harder for him at his age. He wanted to VT. And after 11PM is the best time to run a VT show. Has anyone asked Dick what HE wants?

He didn't want this. He said so in the 2nd article that Robert Feder wrote. Email him or call him at the station and see if he's live.
I'll bet you he is!

I can't see Dick Biondi VT-ing his shift... LIVE radio, too difficult?!! I don't think so. Sadly, it's very likely that all Lew Dickey and Jan Jeffries will do with that petition is use it to wipe their behinds. They think they know best, and you'll never convince them otherwise.

He's almost 80. It's not easy staying awake after 9PM for people that age.

I notice he hasn't updated his Facebook page since the time change.

Dick Biondi is live. He gives the weather and the current temperatures plus he says hello to people calling in and emailing.
Don't take my word for it, try calling or email him at the station if you don't believe it.

^
I called the station, they told me he was live. Then I got told a load of crap about how this was BEST for Biondi, thats right BEST. And I got told that Biondi wanted late shift, yeah right!

Screw you, WLS Management!

Another insult to the listeners intelligence that they would expect us to believe that. I'm sure Biondi begged for that shift (NOT!)
Jan Jeffries is so full of crap!

Sounds like generational warfare... Been listening to JRL and he only opens the mic to the minimum.... One day, they will both, be gone...

Oh come on.

Can't they at least be honest? Or couldn't they at least say some load of garbage like "we can't comment on internal matters" etc. What'd they do...Tell Biondi take his Geritol and shut up..."we know what's best for you"?

I've tried to be open minded and objective about this. As a businessman, I understand and respect managements rationale for making their move. (Which is not to say I agree). But one has to wonder... If they're lying to listeners (even a small percentage), to what extent are they lying/have they been lying to employees? If I were a WLS staffer...even if I thought Biondi was a dinosaur...I wouldn't be feeling too good about things.

Welcome to The Cloud Company, known as "Cumulus"..... being from Atlanta, they have destroyed radio as much as it could be destroyed. I'M SICK OF THEM!

They should say nothing instead of feeding us the garbage that they do. Obviously Jeffries thinks we're stupid. What a terrible company to work for.

I know they're not, I AM.

Isn't it grand to see some of the crap some radio stations pull? You'd think nobody ever had an issue with their crap, or that you were the only one who had an issue with them.

Wait until they put it to music: "We are family, I got all my sisters with me", which of course is intended to have a multiplicity of connotations.
