Philadelphia AM For Sale

Deal is.... in the Major Change Window about 2 years ago, Langer filed to move it from 1530 in McConelsburg to 1180 in King Of Prussia........ Changing frequnecy more then 30 Khz and City of License is considered a major change, and something that can only be done during a Major Change window.. and thats exactly what he did.

Typically, the FCC doesnt like when you mvoe daytimers and change frequnecy, but this was only moving in state... Not like the 11190 in Bay St Louis, Missisisppi filing to move to Laughlin, NV or the Am in Birch Tree, Missouri filing to ove to somewhere in Arizona.

But, will this station ever see the light of day? I figured someone out there has the skinny.

It'll see the light of day... i think theyre in the process of building it now...... they'll be using a Valcom whip antenna.

The question is, with 400 watts into a Valcom Whip what kind of coverage will they have? With their site in the Audubon area off of Ridge Pike, it doesn't seem like they're going to be covering much metro. They will primarily be a Norristown-King of Prussia-Eagleville-Audubon station. The engineering on their application shows the 0.5 mV/m is less than 10 miles, and their 2.0 mV/m contour about 4 miles from the TX.

We'll find out rather soon, as they're expected to hit the air Monday or Tuesday.

Well, I am in Worcester Twsp, so if this is true, then I will post reception reports, as I frequent that area. Any idea on what they will run as far as programming?

WFYL will probably be simulcasting the programming of its sister, WBIX-1060, Natick/ Boston MA.

Marc,
I doubt there's a large Portuguese community in KOP. Thinking more along the lines of aWBIX 1060 simulcast.

Is there a large Portugese in the K.O.P. area? If so they could simulcast Langer's WSRO 650 from Ashland, Massachusetts.

WSRO is brokered 24/7 to Brazilian groups (mostly churches) in the Framingham/MetroWest, MA area. Unless the groups wanted to pay double to be heard in suburban Philadephia, that's probably not going to happen.

That would make sense. While WBIX may be very poorly programmed (airing mostly Langer's poorly produced programming from his several radio networks), having clearance on stations that claim to serve Boston and Philadelphia should help ad sales for his networks. Though you'd have to guess, the NECN block from 8:00pm-10:00pm probably won't have too many listeners in Philadephia.

Dave, whereabouts is the Valcom supposed to be? I wouldn't think it would be off the WWDB/WPEN (night) sticks, as that is actually West Norriton? The only tall, freestanding structure I can think of would be the tower behind the Eagleville firehouse.

Also, has there been an indication where the studios are/will be?

I'd be more than happy to drive by the antenna site, take pics and upload them.

Rob:

It's going to be near the ruff between holes at a lcal glf course. if yu go to www.fcc.gov/search, click AM Query and enter the calls.. you should be able to find the specific information.

i'll host em on my website if you take the pictures..

WFYL's Valcom stick will be between greens on the Jeffersonville golf course. Not sure where offices will be .

The studio for WFYL willl be in a stone house halfway down the driveway to the golf course, so I'm told...

Dave:

I heard that the studio will be in a Tool Shed behind the 18th green.

I drove by the golf course today. Only thing I saw was an extension at the top of a cellular tower. Could this be the stick? It was grayish in color (same as the tower) and it seemed a bit too long to be a lightning rod.

The actual location is on School Lane and Ridge Pike. School Lane takes you out to Egypt Road.

Paul, I have pics....lemme know what you think.

Rob: I would like to see those photographs, if possible. My mother lives down the road from that golf course, so I know that area very well.

Shawn & Rob:

Read my post on WFYL 1180, also on this board. I sure appreciate Rob's efforts, but those pics that I got from Rob were just of a cell tower. The Valcom whip is about 75 feet tall and stands alone.

Paul

 Oh well, back to the drawing board. I just figured, being that tall and with the frequency it would HAVE to be affixed to a structure. It's not like it's cross country for me, so I will try again. And I apologize for the faux pas. Nice greens on that course, tho'.
