Philadelphia Ratings?

Well they are out today. What's the story?

6+ numbers are out and Radio Disney on 640 WWJZ (what I would argue to be the best daytime AM signal in the market) isn't even a blip. Now that's a tax write-off!

Well, yes and no. I'm not pro- nor anti-Rumba, but you can't really get a sense of how it's doing by looking at the overall 12+ numbers. You really need to break out the Hispanic 12+ numbers to see how 104.5 is doing.

What about swapping WRNB and WPHI? It would almost make sense to move WRNB to 100.3 to hit the city and the suburbs (where the Urban AC audience is) while moving The Beat to 107.9 to superserve the city itself and areas right around it (where the Hip Hop audience is)?

As for Praise 103.9, if you go to www.praise1039.com, "Y 100 WPLY-FM" appears in the title bar of my browser for a split second???

Although you are right about the importance of demo breakouts - the extremely low position of Rumba on the 12+ ratings totem pole belies pretty crappy numbers in most (if not all) demos.

I maintain that an active or alt. rocker would have done much better - and almost immediately. Interestingly enough, such a format would have given Clear Channel a slice of the younger male demo and would not have directly competed with any of their other FM properties in the market. CC made a huge mistake here and have left me just shaking my head. Mark my words: Rumba, at it's best (which hasn't happened yet), will never garner 1/2 the ratings that a rocker would. Better power ratings too. This ain't New York and someone in Bala Cynwyd needs to figure that out.

Your suggestion about R1 juggling signals is interesting. I'm not sure whether WRNB would have any more suburban listeners than the Beat does. And, 103.9 is a pretty crappy signal on the fringes too. For sure, Praise FM should be on the most city-centric stick (whether that is 103.9 or 107.9). After that, it gets tougher - do you put hip hop or Tom Joyner on the 100.3 signal? Given that choice, I also tend to lean your way - that they'd get more mileage out of 100.3 with the urban AC format. This way, they are more competitive with WDAS-FM.

Few big markets have such lousy ratings for the station that carries Tom Joyner as this one does. He really racks up the numbers in most big markets that have large black audiences (NY is an exception, as syndicated am shows tend to not work well there - unless based in the city). And, I am convinced it is the signal that is the biggest problem here. Unfortunately, Radio One doesn't seem to have many thinkers at the helm and it's doubtful that they are even considering this. That company seems to be a pretty poorly run outfit.

Thats odd about the praise1039.com. Its right on that page (which redirects to /home.asp, which is why you only see it for a second) When I stopped it, before it redirected, and viewed the source, it was clearly named "Y 100 WPLY-FM". Here's the source
