Lookit R&R. Power up, 'MMR up bigtime, Wired & Q are tied, Sunny & Ben way down and The Beat is officially in the basement. As I told you, Radio One didn't get ridda Y100 'cuz of the ratings. Radio One's stations in Philly wanted to be mainly black. So the white oriented Y100 became toast, The Beat moved in and Praise debuted on The Beat's former frequency.

Robert, please stop with the reverse racism argument and read this:

Edit: My bad, I called you Robert not Dutch. Ok, Dutch quit it with the white black thing, it was green that mattered.
Edited by Wexler on 09/21/05 05:03 PM.

No such thing as "reverse racism" its just racism. Secondly, can we just please stop all the Yhining.

WJJZ I am sure is partying. The major slide is done, and they're back over WRNB.

WSNI, however, we have a problem.

yeah, sure....see how well Mega did on ANY of its frequencies!

They'd be FOOLISH!

Here's what they should do:

a) Move Smooth Jazz to 104.5

b) Relaunch 106.1 as "Philly's NEW Eagle 106 - Greatest Hits of the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's" a la Q105 Tampa (well, they didnt add 90's).
______________

You think it's any less foolish to mess with the money-making success they have at 104.5 and 106.1?

WJJZ is already taking a hit. Moving it down the dial might be just enough to push them over the edge. And getting rid of Money 104.5 to resurrect Eagle 106 would just be bad business: Why spend money to launch and promote something like that? Especially when it would be replacing an almost-pure-revenue machine? Not to mention, the Eagle 106 idea would end up taking away some of sister-station Q102's higher-end demo. It's a risky lose-lose-lose situation!

The idea is cute but it'd do nothing but damage to their cluster. Smooth Jazz and Money 104.5 are cheap-cheap-cheap and they bring in revenue. Clear Channel would likely flip Q102 before they'd mess with either of them!

I was thinking more along the lines of Q for the "kiddies" and "The New Eagle" for the grown ups that remember Eagle 106. I still think that Smooth Jazz will eventually go the way of EZ listening and Nostalgic MOR's. Sure, it costs Cheap Channel virtually nothing to run Sunny. But, they were supposed to come in and beat the stuffing out of locally-operated B101. Guess what? Didn't quite happen that way. And I do believe that, as many listeners that are shared by B and Sunny, 104.5 is not exactly lighting up the numbers, either. They make money due to the fact that the overhead is low. Three jocks and a jukebox (sounds like a sitcom!).
______________

And until someone comes up with a way to revolutionize this industry (the implosion of which has been led by Clear Channel, IMHO), I don't see anything changing. Sadly, what you've stated here is "the new business model!"
