I had the opportunity to watch some local newscasts in Phoenix this past weekend and I have some questions/comments;
Both Channel 12 and Channel 15 newscasts appeard to have poor set lighting. (or Cox cable was transmitting poor signals). The skin tones on the talent for both channels seemed a bit cold/hard. Air talent typically favor correct lighting that favors them. Was it my set or is just me?
I know consultants favor running the color red in the news sets and graphics but the red band on the Channel 15 set under the blue and gold seems a liitle out of place. The ABC O & O's run a nice blue and gold/yellow that seems to be working them just fine.
I also noticed that the CBS network news on Channel 5 runs at 6:00 PM instead of the 5:30 slot that I believe it runs in during daylight savings time. Does the fact that AZ does not observe DST affect the time slots for the news or is this just a Channel 5 decision? Channel 12 seemed to run it's shows at the pre-DST times.
And finally, I noticed an ad that ran in the Arizona Republic for Channel 12 news that went something like, "Different People......Cooney and Curtis". I can't remember the rest of it but it seems like a ridiculous ad to run for a newscast, even it applies to Mark Curtis. He was run out of Minneapolis 10 or so years ago for an "additude" situation with the viewers.
