Maybe. Would he be a bigger asset due to his sports writing or his local presence? Coming at this from the perspective of an issues talk radio fan who doesn't follow sports closely, I had to look Harry Gerard Bissinger III up to see who he was. Does he have any radio presence, or any radio experience? Will having a name like Buzz Bissinger help them?

But what would those cheaper options be? All-local talk doesn't have a good track record here since the early 90s when WWDB popped its ratings into the Top 3 after finally adding Rush, and then trying just about everything - unsuccessfully - to lower the demos. Pre-Big Talker WPHT wasn't highly rated, and post-Rush WWDB saved money by exiting the format. As an FM, they had plenty of cheaper options, but what does 1210 have? Wall to wall Mens' Clinic and 'Growth-proof Retirement' infomercials?imhomerjay said:CBS "protecting" KYW? From a company that hasn't exactly set the world on fire in its first two efforts? Sure, possible. Also possible it's a case of realizing the costs aren't worth the returns any longer, and cheaper options looking more attractive.

Maybe, WPHT was just a bad station. Imaging does a lot for a station, and for the credibility of the hosts. When listening to the station, from time to time, over the past 10 years, I don't remember anything that jumped out at me.imhomerjay said:musichead1029 said:But what would those cheaper options be? With a few oft-cited exceptions, all local doesn't have much of a track record (setting aside for the moment that Smirconish isn't local, no matter what the marketing says). He's got to be cheaper than Rush (just about anyone is). Heck, local doesn't have a good track record, but can be done cheaper, and perhaps within the broader context of their total business, that's good enough.
Yes, WWDB soared with Rush, but WPHT, with him (plus Hannity and Beck) faded towards the bottom anyway. Maybe it's less about the hosts than the format just gradually losing its appeal (be that a local issue or a national one).
WPHT is increasingly irrelevent to my life. The hosts are increasingly boring. Smerconish was the station's best local host, but as a national host he just blends in with the crowd. The station's imaging is uninspired, and the news updates are pointless. The format has devolved into the Phillies and a bunch of philler.badjef said:Maybe, WPHT was just a bad station.
