Pig Vomit has left the building, along with The Felon

There's an old saying: "Those who can, do...those who can't, teach..". Well, there's a new saying: "Those who can, do....those who can't, talk about it on the Internet..." It is a great loss to WGN that "Pig Vomit" has left the building. He is a radio genius who was moving a monster toward recovery. He will land on his feet. WGN will not.
Okay, you wannabees who never have and never could...sharpen your claws and have fun.
Kevin Metheny leaves the building with dignity and an unparralled record of success.

What a dope.

WGN needed changes but the way Metheny and Michaels went about them was all wrong. I love news/talk more than anybody, but Jim Laski, the News Junkie Sean Wasson and Mike McConnell are rather bad choices. Greg Jarrett is a bore, though his show seems to be doing well, ratings wise. On the bright side, John Williams has never sounded better and the hiring of Garry Meier was awesome.

Sad to see Kevin lose his job at WGN. I know Kevin worked very long hours daily to achieve success at WGN. And he very much held the station's ratings together considering all the crap going on in that building. I'm sure Kevin's departure was more of "guilt by association" than his ability.

Kevin will land on his soft cat's paws!

It is a GREAT time to be in radio -

It's hard to be wrong when you have a station that is not even in the top 20 outside of baseball season in 25-54.

WGN needed precisely what Michaels and Metheny were trying to do. It's tough morphing a dinosaur into a race horse.

No... I think they were trying to morph a vegetarian dinosaur into a meat-eating dinosaur. The meat-eater being the right-wing style Michaels perfected at some of the Jacor stations in the 1980's, and which set the table for Rush Limbaugh. OK for 1985, but this is 2010. Why change WGN from something 50 years out of date to something 25 years out of date?

For the record, Howard always called Metheny "Pig Virus" on the air (and in the book "Private Parts"). For some reason, probably so Metheny would not sue, details about the WNBC program director were changed and the character was a composite of several PDs with whom Howard had run-ins. This character also got a new nickname ("Pig Vomit").

I like "Pig Vomit" better anyway. It has a nice ring to it.

Words fail to describe everything that's wrong with this post.

I agree... Metheny is a smart programmer, maybe a genius. However, he lacks certain people skills that are needed both to program stations and manage talent.

Just saw that several weekend programs - including CFRB/Toronto afternoon host Jerry Agar, "The News Junkie" and "ChicagoNow Radio" - were just blown out. Somehow, someway, Simon "Rendezvous" Badinter is still around, albeit with a shortened two-hour show.

"Sports Central" also has been revived on weekends... might it be a matter of time before that show comes back to its' old weeknight slot?

W G N We Goin' Nowhere. Maybe, We Gone Now. Or, how about We Gone Nuts?
Might as well be, with so many recent rebrands and schedule changes.
