Pink Papers are about to Fly

If Joint-Chinese were an insider, wouldn't you think he'd know how to spell the G.M.'s last name?

Joint Chines is much like SkyNet, a non-insider who desprerately wants to be an insider. Their whiney bitterness gives them away.

LOL.... I couldn't care less about being an insider. I come here to babble, throw in my 2 cents and give you my gut feeling on things. Trust me. I'm no insider. I may be opinionated. But that is pretty much my only reason for coming here. Just to vent and poke a little fun every now and then.

Holland,
Could you verify something that has come as a thought for me...Rocky Allen, The guy at WABC, the SF people, etc...are these all people being let go from former ABC stations that were bought by Citadel and, in turn, may have grossly bad contracts written with performance bonuses? I know Rocky & The WABC person (name escapes me at the moment, just back from a bad end of the Bruins/Panthers game) that they were indeed former ABC stations....I am not sure about Chicago, SF, etc

Citadel bloodbath

I haven't spoken with any of those who've been bloodied, but -- because these firings are all coming-at-the-same-time -- it's doubtful that everyone's contract expiration dates were synchronized. More likely, those RIF'd were told at the end of their last show that "That was your last show;" and those with guaranteed contracts simply stop-getting-paid at the end of their deals, those with the Citadel boilerplate "Magic Slate" contracts (i.e., 90 day out) stop-getting-paid as sooooooooooooooon as Farid can get away with it.

Good afternoon from Canadian Music Week.
Imagine, TWO THOUSAND PEOPLE at a RADIO CONVENTION.
Always nice to be in Toronto.
Wish my luggage was, eh?

I'm sorry Holland, maybe I didn't explain myself...I'm not talking about these firings coming at the same time b/c of contract expirations; but it has me wondering if they are coming b/c after Q4 figures/ratings coming out and bonuses being paid. It appears to me (from at least the NYC part of it) that these people were ABC people, not Citadel people prior to the merger and made me wonder that maybe all of the bloodied bodies were ABC people prior to the merger and ABC may have had some big performance bonuses built in to their contracts that hurt the bottom line and to make sure it didn't continue into Q1 08 results, decision was made to cut bait as Citadel did not negotiate those contracts.

OK...let's try this one last time.
Could it be that the people sent packing-Rocky Allen and the gentleman from WABC included-were all employees of ABC, not Citadel, prior to the merger/acquisition?
If so, could it be that all of them had some sort of clause/bonus in their contracts that paid for certain $$ for certain ratings? If this is the case, Farid may have been looking at cutting down on such bonuses being paid for 1st quarter performance for 2008 (winter book) after reviewing what was paid off of the Fall Book and they may have been too easily attainable and cost too much money and they weren't negotiated by "Citadel" management. Were the stations in Chicago, SF, LA, etc that have been in the headlines all ABC properties prior to the merger/acquisition?

You're over-thinking this.

The people ON the radio got screwed.

But look who's left out of the conversation: People listening TO the radio.

What if Homer and Marge Listener got into the car, turned on the radio, and -- through-no-fault-of-their-own -- THE STATION WASN'T THERE?

We're damn close.

Imagine how THAT came up in the conversation?

This is like hearing the word "HEADPHONES" on-air.
A clue that the conversation has zero to do with Homer and Marge listener.
Instead, they're asked to visit the performer's situation.

Let's not kid ourselves. There are some downright dumb people out there masquerading as radio consultants. They're selling the same bland and outdated ideas, afraid to find ways to differentiate themselves from the rest. How do I know this? Turn on a radio!

Just by virtue of the fact that Holland posts on this board should win him some serious points. Only wackos hang out on radio message boards. However, wackos have radios, too. And they tend to be more passionate about the topic. The internet is just a fad. Radio is much more important and relevant than the internet. (Radio consultants - Please note the sarcasm.)

But again, I really think the person to listen to is Jerry DelColliano. He's one of the vets who truly understands what's happening in this industry. I highly recommend reading his blog.

Skynet-

Thank you so much for providing that most recent audio clip of Mr. York. I can't bring myself to listen anymore. In the afternoon I find myself listening to XM. However, the clip is most telling about York.

I must say, at least Holland Cooke posts WITH his real name. It still pains me that I, and most of you DO NOT. In my case, I fear professional retaliation. Whether you agree with consultants or not, you must admit that Mr. Cooke is one of the leading news talk voices in this country. He works with talent on the national level and associates himself with the biggest name in radio consultation, McVay Media.

I think it's rather clear that Mr. Cooke does not like Dan's brand of talk radio. Hell, I'm no consultant, but I don't either! With York, it's all about HIM and NEVER the audience. I wish now John Depetro would have decked him when he had the chance. So what Dan? He called your wife fat! Truth is a defence.

A big "you're welcome" to all who appreciate the clips. I've been transferring all my old audio tapes to digital form. In the process I thought it would be fun to just flip on the radio this week and see what stupidity I can catch Dan saying. It appears to be extremely easy to capture clips of him that clue us in to his true personality. Although I think Dan is intelligent, I would have to say that his intelligence is overshadowed by an increasingly evil attitude. There is lots of anger in that head of his. It seems to be coming out more frequently.

Idea!

Post more.

This isn't meant for everyone here but.....
Catching someone else's stupidity
Clips or comments clueing us in as to a true personality
Increasingly evil attitudes
Lots of anger coming out more frequently

Look at yourselves before pointing fingers at anyone on the radio. What is it with these moods lately? How important is what happens on the radio to you anyway? Get a grip, some of you.

RE "Lots of anger coming out more frequently [in posts here lately]"

'Seems to be responding to bile spewing on-air.

What if, one day -- through no-fault-of-their-own -- Homer and Marge Listener hopped in the car, turned on the radio, and there was nothing there?

Farid's funky deal hasn't killed the carrier yet.
But it's all big-debt-laden-companies' stations can do to avoid dead air lately.

The-next-worst-thing has already come-to-pass. Homer and Marge get a carrier, but there's nothing there that's more engaging than what's on iPod.

Post-de-reg radio dumbed-down JUST AS The Digital Revolution happened.
Sirius and XM listeners paying not-to-listen-to AM/FM is an indictment of the status quo.
iPhone is the new transistor radio.

Self-centered blowhards talking about themselves, "consultants," and arcane state government process irrelevant to half the local audience, lower the bar. And that OUGHT to piss someone off.

Well for me it's all a hobby. Some people smoke and drink themselves to death. Some people gamble themselves into the poor house. I don't do any of those things. So I just come to a Radio Board to talk about Radio. I see no harm done. You're hanging out here too. What the hell else are we supposed to talk about on a radio board? Would you like to exchange muffin recipes?

You are correct Mr. Cooke. I just heard the former Mayor on WPRO go on and on and on and on about convention delegates. What delegate candidate got how many votes? Who is the alternate to the convention. Can I be a page? No that rule was changed, but she is a Super delegate. Didn't she used to be a republican? All this inside the beltway stuff! Who gets to serve on this or that committee. Sooooooooooooooooo boring. Even the head of the democratic party (who has a vested interest in this nonsense) said "well we have probably put your audience to sleep." I heard all I could take. Buddy says, "No no Mr. Lynch people are really interested in this and may be thinking about running to become a delgate to the convention." ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzz

yes...yes....yes. everytime there is a problem with citadel or one of you idiots start to program or change formats the score comes up. when are you people just going to leave well enough alone. that station isnt going anywhere. when it come to what the radio 'mensas' put on this board about the score....please. if I had a nickle for every posting about its demise over 10 years Id be mega rich. try again knuckleheads.

I'm not saying it is or it isn't but with so many heavyweights around the country being cut you'd have to be a knucklehead yourself to assume anyone is safe. And since your profile shows your email to be [email protected] I guess that rules you out as being Farid himself assuring the world that the stations with no numbers will be the only ones not to be touched.
