Piolin Ordered To Pay Over $100,000!

For those wanting an English version:

LOS ANGELES (California) - "El Piolin," radio personality in Spanish America, has been ordered to pay more than $ 100,000 in legal fees to six people he accused in a fruitless demand.

Lawyers for the six people said a Los Angeles judge ordered the payment.

"El Piolin", whose real name is Eddie Sotelo, had long been on a radio show on NBC called "Morning", until it was abruptly canceled without explanation last year.

Sotelo subsequently sued six former employees of [NBC-owned] Univision, claiming that they conspired in a scheme of extortion by $ 4.9 million and false accusations of sexual harassment. The suit was dismissed in March

That translation is wrong and misleading. NBC doesn't own Univision, they own Telemundo.

Wherever this story came from, they got a key fact wrong:

"El Piolin", whose real name is Eddie Sotelo, had long been on a radio show on NBC called "Morning", until it was abruptly canceled without explanation last year.

Sotelo subsequently sued six former employees of [NBC-owned] Univision, claiming that they conspired in a scheme of extortion by $ 4.9 million and false accusations of sexual harassment. The suit was dismissed in March

Univision is not owned by NBC. NBC owns Telemundo, which does not have a radio division.

"Tweety Bird" (the English equivalent of "Piolin") was the morning show on many of Univision's Regional Mexican-formatted stations and a few not owned by Univision.

I just went and read the original article at the Telemundo website.

It appears the error was introduced in Art's translation of the article, as the original has no mention of NBC.

(By the way, does anyone besides me think that picture of Sotelo looks rather scary?)

The translation utility you used failed.

#El Piolín", cuyo nombre real es Eddie Sotelo, tuvo durante mucho tiempo un programa radial en Univisión llamado "Por la mañana", hasta que fue abruptamente cancelado sin explicación el año pasado."

Here is a correct translation....

"The Tweety Bird" whose real name is Eddie Sotelo, had a long running show on Univision called "... in the Morning" until it was abruptly cannceled with no reason last year"

Of course, the show was not called "Por la Mañana". It was "Piolín por la Mañana".
