Pirate on 87.9 (sorry if already covered)

Noticed Wave 87.9 and WBMT 88.3 both coming in fairly well in N. Reading yesterday about 5 pm

I didn't necessarily mean having 2 stations, and one would power up when the other powers down; I would mean
if, say, the guy behind the Wave would program his music onto a WBMT computer complete with legal IDs, PSAs
and such, and when WBMT goes off, Wave programming would go on. Just an automated jukebox really but w/
legal IDs and such. I haven't heard much of WBMT but I think once or twice I heard them rattle off a bunch of
"contributors" at sign-on and sign-off, and perhaps these contributors would enjoy the music that would be featured
by the Wave. (I'd think the contributors include a few local businesses and many moms and dads of the Masco
students...? Masco alumni...?) But as you say nobody would be interested in this (bringing non-students in, even
if it's a matter of programming music on a computer).

If this is WBMT's site, it hasn't been updated since 2004.

Are you sure you are listening to WBMT? I am not sure they have signed on for the year yet. Before school ended last year they said it was their last year on-the-air.

If you stop in front of the school and tune to 88.3, you hear what sounds like the station coming from the school but it is Nashua. Six hundred-sixty watts should do better than a few miles.

OK; thought maybe someone donated one or something.. etc.

Driving through area today; 87.9 was on ("Don't Go Breaking My Heart"), also 87.7 was coming in strong from
Boston. 88.1 was coming in but some other station on same freq trying to cut in (Boxford, Ipswich, Hamilton area)

88.3...was off.

We had a collision we posted at the same time. I was saying that I don't think WBMT will be on this year and they never did weekends.

Wow. You were getting 87.7 that far up north? Maybe the power is a little higher than it should be. Thirty plus miles isn't that local.

I was referring to hearing them a few yrs in the past (donor announcement, etc.) not recently. 87.7 was indeed on and on strong. Got them in Beverly a few days ago...88.3 was definitely off as I was in area today, maybe the Nashua
station faintly (I have been known to get the NHPR station in N Reading)

I have often wondered if the Nashua 5KW station's directional antenna is properly oriented.

Could get this station pretty good in North Andover today.

ive heard callers from NH on 102.9 Choice.. near milton/canton area i can barely get them (just south of mattapan) so they must be directional to the north or something (probably unintentionally but how the anntena is mounted or something

I'm just a few miles north of Boston in Somerville, "Choice" isn't all that strong here. I can't believe it would get up to southern NH. They may be streaming online, maybe that's how people are claiming to hear them up there.

online streaming perhaps

In Southern New Hampshire and some parts of Northern Mass you can get the WBLM 102.9 blowtorch from Portland, ME... no way someone could get 102.9 CHOICE (under good conditions anyway) anywhere past 128. Everytime I put it on that station it's staticy.... but it's a pirate, what do I expect??

btw I noticed WBMT 88.3 was on tonight at 5 pm or so (student DJ announced song and said "'BMT" at one point). So they're on, if very rarely. Also the 87.9 pirate was heard in Beverly just before 3 am (with hard rockin' tunes like
Barry Manilow's "Ships That Pass in the Night"--sarcasm here of course!) Believe it or not I'll say a positive thing about a pirate: they're on a lot more often than WBMT...
