Pirate on 95.3 and KODA's audio

Anyone else notice a mono pirate on 95.3?? Playing something in spanish.....not bad audio...and coverage but definitely nothing I know of licensed in or around Houston!!

Also listening to KODA tonight....As the radio tuned to them (from another preset), the audio sounded MONO ...then sounds like it slowly BLENDS to stereo!!! I have NEVER heard this before and flipped back and forth several times to make sure....sure enough, it was doing it....and I was just east of I10/610 on the east side...I wonder if the IBOC is causing this?? No other FM has this issue and even 103.7 at its city grade edge goes stereo immediately...but 99.1 takes more than a full second to finally sound like stereo (the stereo lamp is on so it is seeing the pilot but I wonder if there is a phasing issue or something...weird!! Never heard a car radio blend FROM mono TO stereo...usually the other way around ;) Anyone else notice this...I know nothing is wrong with my stereo system....(and I wasnt drinking, etc ;)

Sometimes I think it is the IBOC, when KBPA sometimes will sound like that, the mono will kick in, but it will be in stereo also. I havnt had any bad anythign like that out at Lavaca county, could be though the IBOC doesnt go out that far.

It is 95.1 from Lake Jackson you can hear them pretty good on the south west side along 59 south Mrtexmex should have more info on this station

95.1 seem to have increased for 40w to more like 100w or maybe even 250w

Since iBOC was added to WLUP 97.9 in Chicago my Sansui at home will often not go into stereo for this station, no matter what I try.
Deep fringe antenna in the attic, amped or bypassed, turning on/off 10 db pad, etc, rotating antenna.
I am 7 miles from downtown.

Did they change freq? This was on 95.3 NOT 95.1 tonight..I could hear KYKR on 95.1, barely...so knew it wasnt skip..95.3 was strong on the east side near Channelview

I think this station has bad bleed over have not heard of any switch to 95.3

Well the one I heard tonight was on 95.3, NOT 95.1!...so unless they changed freq, it wasnt the one I heard tonight (stupid to go on 95.1 down in Lake Jackson anyway....with KVIC and KYKR on the channel, 95.3 would be cleaner freq..but then noone said pirates are really intelligent)

I am going to break out the DF gear on Monday or Tuesday and see where this one is..

No, it's not the translator bleeding over. And as far as their signal goes, it depends on what you call "pretty good." Anywhere along 59 is well outside the "service area" (60dBu contour) of 95.1 Fact is, the signal strength is way less, somewhere like under 40dBu in that area. Also note that the translator (K236AR) is licensed to Angleton, not Lake Jackson.

You'll have to trust me on this one. They haven't increased power and no application has been filed to do it, either. They still run 41 watts ERP from an antenna that's about 830 feet above ground level.

Nop I havent heard anything about this station on 95.3 but I will look in to it tomorrow. And I will let you all know.

Well here is what I found out. 95.3 fm is Radio Aleluya thats all I could get, no more information.

On the current FCC database, they have filed for SEVERAL translators (EIGHT!) all over Houston on 95.3 but I DONT see a license issued (I'll do some more digging on the CDBS and FCC Daily Digest)...but isnt their main station stereo?? If so, then this ain't no translator! (If it is, they are in violation of other rules in Part 73; if its not, they are illegal period!)...Definitely time for a xmtr hunt :)

Oh great, just what we need, more psycho preachers telling us that we are all siners and that we should "donate money. Sorry pastor, that money is statying in my pocket.

I just can't believe that if this is indeed a pirate station, why is a religious broadcaster breaking the law.

Its been done before...in DFW, a church fired up a translator on FM (repeating a religious station NE of Dallas they were affiliated with) after they filed an APP but had no CP! Claimed they were TESTING.....UH folks, until you have the CP, you cannot do a damn thing! Same situation here if this is the case.....Yea know they believe they are above "man's law"...but someone needs to reread the bible to them (Give to Caesar what is Caesar's).....sorry but the airwaves are regulated by the FCC...Caesar in this case :)
Sorry but most religious (not all) broadcasters leave a bad taste in my mouth......even Radio Maria....geeesh they took over a station I started my radio career at (1250 in Port Arthur) and every time I tune across it, I hear "Hail Mary, the Lord is with thee"..........sorry but I grew up Catholic...I dont need to hear the rosary 24/7 anymore....(It would be nice for them to do SOMETHING for their community instead of chanting and praying all day long....no local service whatsoever...AND RM had a STA for 250watts on 1250....they tore down the 500ft tower of the 2 tower array...so instead of 5KW day/1KW night, they filed for a STA of 250watts into the short tower (WHY?? 5KW day was still ok...250 only at NIGHT would have been enough but they asked for 250 24/7!?!) Told the FCC they planned to have the new tower up in 30 days but asked for a 60day STA....HHHMMM that was back in SEPT 07.....guess what, NOTHING has been done...and the STA expired last I looked...and they still have one tower up, no lights on it (its over 200ft I think) and nothing started on the 500ft...gee what happened to 60days (much less 30?) What a joke......and then there is Rev Darryl Martin out of Baytown who owns the former KTRM in Beaumont on 990.....Class B 1KW....USED to cover the entire area with NO problem....(2nd best AM to KLVI in its glory days)...NOW cannot be heard on the south side of Beaumont day OR night...(980 out of NE Houston is louder there!)....low audio (MAYBE 30-40%), main studio rules violations, probably hasnt done a EAS in years....(mail scattered all over the floor behind the door and mail slot...showed over 3-4 weeks of mail.....) what a joke.....and a sham.....IF they want to serve the community, FIX THE DAMN STATION SO IT CAN SERVE THE PEOPLE..otherwise, sell it and get out of the market or radio altogether...you are a joke..

Ok ok. time for me to go back to anger management class...Jd, you going to be my sponsor?? :)

You bet, CW. I enjoyed your rant, and I felt better after complaining over on the Engineering board!

Back to the subject at hand, I can't find anything, either, about Aleluya being licensed for any of their translators in Houston. You mentioned the signal strength around Channelview, so there are a couple of possible locations; first, around 610 and McCarty: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FX634842.html Also, in case the first one isn't on yet, is a site near NASA Road 1 in Taylor Lake Village: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FX634812.html

I don't know their engineer but the original application for the translator at Angleton, along with a couple of other deals, looked pretty solid. Likewise, Aleluya's tactic of applying for several translators around town, all on 95.3, is pretty innovative (regardless of what anybody thinks of religious operations like this). What I'm saying is they look like they've got their act together (on paper, at least), so surely they wouldn't put a translator on the air before they actually got approval. Or would they? First you apply, then you get approved, build it out, go on the air with program tests, then when everything's working right you apply for a license. Maybe we missed something, but I don't see how. I want to see a license, or at least approval of an application on this one!

Well in the past Radio Aleluya has always made a big deal when they get a station, when they got 95.1 they asked for money. When they got 93.3 they asked for money. When they were upgrading 88.1 they asked for money. They asked for money to buy this other station 105.9 fm. But they dont even mention 95.3 at all.

maybe they got the memo, because they arent on 95.3 anymore

Y95.3 IS a legal station in the Dallas area (north side) http://www.khyi.com/...BUT it was NOT the spanish music & jocks I heard last Sunday...Sorry I KNOW my FMs and it was NOT Y95 I heard (Y95 is stereo anyway...this signal was NOT; typical pirate)

The bands have been open because of the weather..on one ham repeater freq, a rptr out of West Little Rock was heard in the Beaumont area!!!

If that is the case someone is rebroadcasting y95 then becasue I could heard it will full stereo like a local for over 30 min

AHHH NO!!! YOU HEARD Y95!!! DIRECT!!! It happens...BUT what I heard LAST SUNDAY, ONE WEEK/7DAYS AGO, was NOT Y95 because the band was NOT open and they were MONO and playing spanish format...NOT country that Y95.3 does...
I worked in Dallas and Houston markets...I know the signals and what I hear....YOU heard Y95...not unusual....102.9 Houston would COVER up KDMX MIX 102.9 in Garland or Fort Worth easily during the summer...and there was nothing we could do about it!!
