Pirate radio get served by FCC

I can make a pirate not noticeable with fake call leters every hour and a great sound with some audio processing software, and generate RDS with that airomate software, and not sound total crap like most pirate do. Thats why is easier for the FCC to notice and find you has a pirate. ;D ;D

Pirates are only noticed because they interfere with other stations. Touch 106.1 has a professional sound, and so does Hot 87.

Yes that is because alot of Hot and Touch-FM personnel used to work for Nash/Radio One AM 1090.

Someone's fantasies are working overtime...;D

The FCC doesn't care what you sound like. If you don't have a license, they'll notice you...bet on it. It may look like they're not doing much about it, but they know the frequency and location of every pirate within a few days of their first going on the air.

If you think they are going to put people in jail over a friggen radio station you are sadly mistaken.

No, but they might bankrupt them. Take their house, garnish wages, etc.

If they did they would have to put all of the 18 wheel "good buddies" in jail too for operating with a kilowatt on their CBs.

There is quite a bit of difference in punishing those that operate on a commercial band....and those that operate on the citizen band.

They go after the owners of the property the radio station is owned by not necessarily the pirate. Again it is just a friggen radio station and if you beleive the law is the law it should be enforced for any infraction. Read the FCC's Daily Digest and you will see that many of the fines issued are for business band radio for not operating with a license not pirates.

Unless you are interfering, using obscenity, or just one of the local nut-cases complaining, the FCC doesn't really care.

sound but not signal - could barely hear then in brookline, and definitely not now, where 87.7 is 10x as strong as Big City is 10x as strong verything else..

How does the FCC finds you? Do they drive Across the country with some special equipment?

They don't have to "drive across the country". They wait for a complaint...usually filed by a legal commercial operator...who reports the what is on the air, at what position on the dial...and where they are being heard.

The FCC using directional antenna's triangulate the signal and determine the location.

Pretty easy actually....

How much power would endanger a child ? Between cell phones, cordless phones, legal 50k radio towers, and Million Watt TV towers, there's got to be a lot of RF in child's room as is - especially if you're near the Needham towers or the Pru. Curious what the threshold of endangerment would be if you had a transmitter in your apartment. 10 watts?

I worked in legal radio, but know little to nothing about engineering. However, I remember an RF warning being posted in the AM station's transmitter room warning employees not to stand in front of a specific part of the equipment for more than 10 minutes. Would this not apply to an FM transmitter of any wattage in one's residence?

You won't even feel 10 watts if you touch the antenna of a 10 watt station. 100 watts would give you a shock, and might shorten your lifespan if you have a 100 watt transmitter next to you all day. You'd feel the heat standing next to a 1000 watt station, that's about as much power as a microwave. 10000 watts and up will give you a nasty RF burn.
If a 50000 watt radio station needs to replace the tower light, they won't need to go off the air completely, they would only need to reduce their power to around 1000 watts or less.

But these considerations increase as frequency goes up. Which is why the holes in the door of your microwave oven are the size they are.
You can feel heat touching the tank coil of a 10 watt transmitter, get a really nice white spot on your skin with an RF burn from anything 50 watts and up.
I don't worry about MW, really didn't like carrying an old analog cellphone against my body. ( Got a weird itching ) No prob with newer phones.

Actually, they usually go by a report that is usually followed by an address. They don't really need to use triangulation anymore. Too many people willing to drop a dime.

btw I saw the bill, his son paid music fees ( $ 350.00 ) per year ( ASCAP ) so some pirates do pay fees.
Did anyone else go to the open house to see the studios?
