Lafayette Planet Radio 106.7 changing call letters?

Yeah this sounds nothing like the original Cool 96. It had just launched when I moved to Lafayette for college and it played at my work. It was nowhere as sleepy as this crap they're playing now. TBH even my 73 year old mom said it was too sleepy šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
I always wonder why folks are so down on stations that play soft music. I listen to different music depending on my different moods. There are times I want uptempo tunes, when I want a boost. Then there are times when I'm reading or need to concentrate and I want soft music that will not compete for my attention.

It wasn't that long ago when there were plenty of stations that played soft music and were highly rated. Easy Listening, Beautiful Music, Smooth Jazz, Soft AC, even Classical. Now most markets have no soft music among a dozen or more FM stations. Did life become less hectic that we don't want to hear music to help us relax in a busy day?

I wouldn't call any popular style of music "crap" as if someone is trying to sell me something he knows is defective.

Planet plays 2 currents an hour currently
Better than everything else you hear in Lafayette if you are a modern rocker. Close would be 106.3 , but that's more Adult Alternative...

Im wondering if a Sirius XM turbo could be the like the millineal classic rocker. As God knows 105.1 doesnt play anything new and im not directly in market but at least 106.3 finally went true alternative/modern rocker as last time I listened hard, they leaned AAA. But searching apparently they are playing more modern rock

106.3 copied and pasted Planet's playlist a while back but sprinkled in some of the new "alternative" songs, which Planet (thankfully) doesn't play. Planet adds new songs from mostly heritage artists. Newer songs in rotation are from Deftones, Sublime, Foo Fighters, Papa Roach, etc.

Regarding Turbo, I think it's too heavy to be mainstream or mass appeal. Probably why it's not really replicated outside of SXM. On the flip side, most modern rock stations sound more like SXM Pop Rocks, which is ok, but as someone who lived the music when it was originally popular, it leaves out a lot of good songs. Planet is essentially Lithium with better selections and 2 new songs per hour.

A suggestion to Cool 106.7 management... UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE! This story is from Feb. 10, 2022. They slso posted a story with the headline " President Biden to send 3,000 troops to the Russia - Ukraine conflict". šŸ˜‚

Most people on this site are men. We are not in the target demographic for a soft AC or soft oldies station. So, people on this board being unhappy with a change like the one from Planet to Cool isn't surprising.

Like you, I occasionally listen to soft AC stations, but I find myself flipping between stations a lot when I'm in that mood. The reason is that those stations really aren't programmed to me, and a fairly sizable pool of songs that test high with women my age don't test as well with men.
