Platnum 96.7

Re: Platnum 96.7 (Finally Pure Oldes music)

Hello All,
Thank you GOD!!! Ron Chapman!!! I love this format (True Oldes) on 96.7. This is better than Smooth Jazz..Sorry all Oasis fans I am #1 of Smooth Jazz. I hate to see Cody Dean face at KLUV 98.7 right now. I bet he is peee off at Ron for coming back to Dallas. Larry and Gail are pure great on air staff. I bet ratings will be 2.0 + next rating months. I see 3 + if Ron Chapman will do some on air shifts. I like to know what Larry's story was about leaving Salem broadcasting. I know Gail left Metro Traffic for more money with Ron. Now, Good LUCK!~~ What will new callsign be to go with format??? Need to change KTYS fast!!!

Dan-The-MAN!!!
The North Texas RADIO MAN!!!

NOW!!! 96.7 is #1 PRESET on my RADIOS!!!!

Yep! Normally I dislike consultants. But Chapman is a perfect fit here. He's been in Dallas long enough to know what will and won't work. 96.7 has a real ace in the hole on that one! 8) Even if Chapman never does an air shift, he can still foster a real edge with this station. And it would not surprise me if he does a lot of the work from his home. ;D

Let's try KMEO again. I'm listening to the stream right now, and it reminds me of the old KMEO "Memories 96.7." Like Love 105 in Minneapolis, they mix soft rock oldies with some adult standards, and they say "love is constant."

KMEO calls aren't available. They were assigned to 91.9 FM in Mertzon, Texas in August of 2006.

This is not the True Oldies format Citadel has put on other stations in other markets.

Other than folks who watch "Lawrence Welk" reruns on PBS, I'm not sure anyone is going to confuse this station for anything with a "real edge" to it. To be honest, it doesn't even sound original -- it sounds identical to what 96.7 was before it was KTYS ("soft oldies" KMEO "Memories 96.7").

Maybe I'm missing something...but what is unique, original, and "edgy" with "Platinum 96.7" compared to the previous "Memories 96.7" incarnation?

I'm not bashing the change...it's great someone is willing to put on a format that targets an older crowd on the FM dial these days. I'm just not seeing where what they put on is anything original.

Forgot all About KAAM.
I think their Days might be Numbered now.

They were doomed the moment they hobbled their audio for IBOC. They took a great sounding radio station and made it sound like ____ for the vast majority of their audience. They should have bided their time, and gone HD when and if HD radio was a success in the marketplace.

KTYS - a great new format, if the songs are hand picked by Chapman for the Dallas audience, they may make quite an impact.

What you're missing is that Chapman is working directly with the current 96.7 FM. He was still at either KVIL or KLUV back in Memories' original run.

I always think it's interesting when a station flips to see how other stations react. Will Wolf, Big 96.3, KHYI, and Ranch react with any type of sweepers or website talk. I remember when Young Country went away KSCS was running sweepers with former KYNG jocks saying "I made the switch to KSCS".

Well hey, it pertains to something dealing with "air", right? :D

Sometimes I crack myself up... ::)

I just heard one on The Ticket that said something to the effect of The Twister left its listeners high and dry and we understand that our P1's want to hear country sometimes and then it said to listen to The Wolf.

Maybe they'll play it again and I can get the exact wording next time.

I set the alarm for 5:20AM to get the switchover, and dozed back off. When I woke up, it was already over--The Carpenters were playing. Anyone know exactly what time it happened? (And in between, I had a dream that they switched back to the old KMEO calls...really.)

Those calls might have been staged...sometimes you have to grease the wheels a little to get things started! I'm not overjoyed with the songs I've heard so far, but the important thing to remember here is that IT'S SOMETHING DIFFERENT...FINALLY. If you're into the 70s and 80s, most of these songs were heard right alongside the pop that KLUV plays and the 'classic rock' that KDBN plays, way back when...so at least it's a listening option. I gave them a preset last week in anticipation of.

(Of course, I was the one who once listened to Warm 97.9, Memories 96.7, KQZY, etc...)

5:30 AM. Looks like you omly missed the first couple of songs.

I gotta admit, I like the way it sounds so far. Good to hear Larry Dixon's voice on the air again. The phone call he played prior to 7 AM was pretty funny - a lady asking about Toby Keith tickets. Guess she didn't get the memo.

As far as Ron Chapman's involvement, it's going to be interesting to see how much (if any) meddling Citadel does in the format. If Ron can keep the station sounding independent, it'll be a breath of fresh air in this market, regardless of what they play. (And so far, it sounds like a blast from KVIL's past - great stuff for us "old-timers" who remember the glory days of KVIL.)
