Playboy Radio Premium Channel - Cancelled

...we regret to inform you that XM will no longer offer the Playboy Radio Premium Channel (XM 205) as of September 1, 2005.

----Letter from XM

I never thought radio was the ideal medium for the Playboy channel...

> how many people paid for that channel, does anyone know?
> I didn't,so this is no loss.

I got on a message board for listeners (205er's they call themselves)and they are pissed. Quite a little community they've got going there. Mostly truckers. They've pretty much made it clear without saying it that even though XM is cancelling the channel, Sirius will be picking it up and even adding more programming. There was really only one show that they repeated all day long on XM....kind of like the Opie and Anthony channel. I subscribed on a lark (worth a shot for $2). It was entertaining at times but they definitely needed some new programming. I wish them luck....

So does this mean if Sirius picks it up, they might have more of Cousin Stevie radio??? Not sure if that would be a good or bad thing.

Doesn't Sirius already have Maxim radio?

This was the dumbest idea in the history of satellite radio. I hope this starts a stampede of cancellations of other ridiculous channels so we can increase the bandwidth on the others.

Let's ditch the traffic channels, too. XM can never compete with a local market. Ever.

Bandwidth problem solved. I expect a consultant check.
______________

I hope MTV and VH1 go because they have music content that can be found anywhere else on XM. If I want to see Behind the Music I'll watch it on TV.

Also E! radio. Seriously, does anyone listen to that channel? Seriously?

They sure can compete with mine. I don't like waiting every half hour for my traffic update when I'm about to go north on the interstate.

Hmmm.... XM shutting down Playboy Radio 205 in September... and Opie & Anthony announce they're giving "golden tickets" to five lucky terrestrial radio shows... Coincidence?

I strongly disagree here. I hated punching through all the radio channels hoping I'd catch someone giving a traffic report when I needed it - or I'd be waiting and waiting for the report to come up, and when it finally does, it's too late and I'm stuck in gridlock. The traffic channels are a godsend, in my opinion.

Not sure, but if they pick up Playboy, Maxim fans can tune in just for the articles.
______________

I have no problem with the Traffic channels.it just seems they could put up ONE traffic channel for Ohio (Preferably Cleveland?) though Cincinnati or Columbus would work too

Completely disagree. For areas that have traffic cameras, Trafffc Pulse is a great resource, giving actual travel times while the AM-FMs only say "there's a slowdown here, there's a slowdown there".

The big AM news stations (WINS, KYW, WTOP) will always have an edge, since listeners call up and report traffic jams directly, but as traffic cameras become the norm, that edge will diminish. Until then, Traffic Pulse just needs to get more people out in the field.

The one thing I'm not a fan of is the weather. There are so many other places to get weather that there's no way I'm turning to XM for that info. XM might be better off ditching weather and doubling up some of the traffic channels like Sirius does.

I wish they would add a lot more. I'm in Austin, TX and there is no XM traffic channel. They do have Houston and Dallas, but not Austin. I know there are a whole lot of subscribers here. Does anybody know if there is a city size limit for their traffic or is it based on number of subscribers?
