TV, both network and Cable will get a large chunk of the ad buys. But the stations that usually do well in political season are the AM talkers, as well as music stations like WNAK. It's about frequency and when your rate is lower, you can buy more because of the political rate card. Plus politicians want to reach the people most likely to vote so the AM stations, 45 plus are what they'd be aiming at. I can tell you who won't get a huge radio political buy, BHT and that X station.
At one point, when I was at 107, for a while they did not accept political rates because it averaged out and lowered their big rates to agencies. That's why, at least when I was there, they never openly solicited local races.
But as October draws near, you'll hear spots on WILK, WNAK, WARM and ESPN Radio. There are no hot representative races (state) this fall, even though they are contested. During the spring primary, when so many people were running for state rep, you saw very full commercial logs. You might see some action from the Kearney and Sherwood camps since Kearney seems as if he is in striking distance. My blog, The LuLac Political Letter will be keeping on eye on these media developments.
