political radio spots?

anyone heard any? it doesn't seem like there are a lot of spots out there.

and what about "reasonable access"? has anyone heard of a case where a campaign has challenged a radio station about its best rate? i wonder about these small mom and pop radio stations around the state who will do just about anything for a buck. they say they bill at one rate, but in actuality bill at way below the market rate price to its good clients, when all is said and done.

could a campaign go to a small radio station, if it had inside information, and demand the very small rate? would it be worth it? has anyone heard of such a thing.

AFAIK Political Advertisers are legally entitled to the lowest unit rate for a given class of time. That's not to say there isn't some cheating going on but I doubt there's much. My understanding is that you could put a stations license in jeopardy if an Political were to be overcharged.

I heard the Ron Paul radio spots on WHOM and WXRV the other night while scanning the FM dial during my commute home.

OMG!
Are you kidding me? I HATE them and yes I have heard them! Wait until next year - I'll be ready to shoot myself! I produce 90% of the political ads for the state folks running as we are the political station (WDEV). I am so dreading it!!!!! before I got here - I used to like politics. On elections night we have to stay until like 1 am. We cover everything political. I hate political season ans next year isn't just an election year, it's a full on Election year - meaning everyone runs - from the president to the town reps. Lord help us all...

Nice post there RVG - and good thinking. If it so puts you out - maybe buyers will avoid your station all together. (a must buy? Think again... a vindictive buyer can think of ways around WDEV) I can't imagine your managment being thrilled about seeing a public post like this.

Where's Rich Tarrant when you need him.. I think he helped just about every Vermont stations bottom line in 2006 and then some..

It's just one man's opinion, but political spots come under the same column as car dealers and discount stores.

You can choose to believe that one candidate will offer you a better deal than his (or her) competitors...but in the long run it's the same old auld lang syne until next year!

I admit this final comment is off-topic, but would anybody reading this thread really want to park their car or truck in the middle of a deep gulley and roll a boulder over it ....in order to buy a 2007 Toyota? ::)

I know I wouldn't!
