Poorman/KCAA

I was out in the Inland Empire recently and managed to tune into KCAA and The Poorman's show.

The Poorman really, really needs to let his issues with Dr. Drew and Loveline go. The whole hour it was him ranting and raving how he discovered Dr. Drew, and him and Dr. Drew did drugs, and how Dr. Drew and the powers that be at KROQ hijacked his creation, Loveline, from him.

Apparently on Thursday he is going to reveal some big secret about Dr. Drew.

If what he is saying is true that Dr. Drew and the powers that be stole his idea of Loveline, I can understand being upset, but it has been a long time, and frankly the truth, more times than not, is in the middle.

The following hour he was yelling into the microphone how he has no callers and no sponsors, then when there was a caller he talked over the person going on about the same thing.

This is not even IE quality radio, nor simply quality radio.

Of course it is fitting Poorman would be on a station like KCAA, which, aside from difficulty being able to be picked up within the IE due to the ground conductivity, the programming is in real disarray. Lots of brokered programming and sudden moments filled with dead air.

From what I have been able to gather it is some company in Texas that owns this station and I do not know what their purpose is in owning this station as it rarely, if ever, registers on the IE ratings.

I am kind of curious, anybody know the story behind this station?

The Poormans show is probably brokered itself. Would you put him on the air and pay him? He hasnt been relevant in years...hes stuck in the past. I had the (unfortunate) luck of being on the Board the last time he was on the air in LA, on Star 98.7. You probably wont recall him being on, because he only lasted 45 minutes on the air. He came on the overnights, and the first thing he tried to do, is a giveaway that he came up with on the way to the station. The promotions dept had no clue what he was doing, and neither did programming. He goes on the air, and says, i will give you a brand new kit car, to the first person that calls and crashes their car live on the air. He got one person to do it, and then got more calls saying that they crashed their cars first. Theres not much more to this, because I got hotlined and was told to play music, and ask Poorman to leave. That was in 2000, and he was nuts back then...so now, its just that much more. Smells like sour grapes to me.

Anyone remember seeing Poorman doing late night car insurance commercials 15 years ago? He was washed up then. I am afraid to admit that I was at his wedding in Newport in the early '90's. Quite an experience.....

His whole "act" worked for KROQ in the 1980s and early 90s, but was the odd man out in many other places.

The story at Star 98.7 kind of reminds me of Jimmy Rabbitt's one-time evening shift at KHJ breaking format and rambling.

So much for build-ups.

Listening on the web, KCAA is running an encore presentation of the Poorman today.

Guess we'll have to wait for the "secret".

Or Lee "Baby" Simms half-an-overnight at KMET? Sam Bellamy rushed into the station to relieve him.

.

Have you read his rants on Facebook? Almost ALL he ever posts about is how Loveline was stolen from him and how much he hate Dr Drew. But really, isn't Poorman getting himself canned from all these jobs because he lacks the ability to filter himself? He thinks that once he gets a job he can say or do anything he wants. It's sad because he seems like a nice guy when you meet him, but he's got to move forward and let go of all his anger, he only has himself to blame...

Apparently Poorman has stopped whining about Loveline and started doing something about it.

On Monday Jim "Poorman" Trenton debuted his new Loveline on his KCAA radio show's 2pm hour. His co-host is Dr. Scott and his guests were a psychic (Monday) and a pair of nerd comics (Tuesday). Today was a repeat of the two Loveline hours.

I heard both shows and IMHO the whiney Poorman is gone. I think he's generally stoked about the new show and his days of meltdowns are over. I remember the original Sunday night show and this is it.
