Portable HD may be too expensive

DAB is a completely different system. Duh!

Is that your only reply, to all the points that I made below ? And yes, I pointed out below, that DAB is full-digital, not a hybred system, as HD/IBOC:

Even with the full-digital mode, DAB does not have the reach of analog...

These two systems, are similarly behaving badly.

THE L BAND IS MUCH HIGHER IN FREQUENCY THAN VHF, and behaves differently. Propogation characteristics are better on VHF (where the FM band is). And unlike DAB, FM HD is still in the "tweak it" stage...where adjustments can be, and will be made to improve performance. Second and third generation HD Radios will also perform better. Technology improves over time. Which is why only dummies like me buy the first genration of anything!

Will you quit freaking quoting about DAB in the UK? Different country. Different culture. Different system. Different technology. Different codecs. Different broadcast infrastructure. Different relationship between broadcasters and listeners (there are no "national" radio stations in the US, for instance. That's MOSTLY what dominates UK listening). You know what? I HAVE THE FREAKIN' RADIO. It works BEAUTIFULLY! Would you believe it if someone blogged that night was on average lighter than day, IF YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE TOLD YOU OTHER WISE? Not being a teenager, I'm not really concerned about "peer pressure". I put that in quotes, because as far as I'm concerned, when it comes to deciding what's right for ME, what is worth the expendature of MY MONEY, and what represents good VALUE, I have NO PEER. It's MY OPINION ALONE that matters!

Hey if a radio that receives HD from 80 to 100 miles away (WMIT-FM Black Mountain/Asheville NC) is "unremarkable" I sure as hell can't wait till I get a good one!

Besides, it doesn't even stand for "Hybrid". There are numerous modes for HD beyond those being used now. Some aren't hybrid at all.
