Portable Wi-Fi Internet Radio Unveiled

British audio company Acoustic Energy has created what they claim is the first Wi-Fi Internet radio. The radio can access nearly all internet radio stations, using wireless Internet connections and can be used anywhere that a Wi-Fi connection is available. Acoustic Engery has teamed with German technology compnay Reciva whose technology is used to upload channel listings to your radio. The radio can also be used to play most music files that are stored on your computer.

The radio will be initially introduced overseas, with Acoustic Energy releasing the radio to consumers this November. It is expected to cost just over $350 US.

For more info on the radio go to www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/contact/radio.html

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Wi-Fi Internet Radio introduced in the US by November for those Christmas gifts for those that have every new radio that comes on the market. Actually when the price drops to a more affordable level, I would invest my money in a Internet Radio that receives 1000's of stations over HD-R or Satellite. Houston all ready has a number of Wi-Fi Internet sites, at this time mainly inside the loop, but is spreading rapidly outside the loop and the goal is to have the majority of Houston Wi-Fi in a few years.

What kind of sound quality would it be? Any better than what is heard by just listening to stations on the computer speakers now?

Re: "Ultimate Solution" Internet Radio

It's digital encoded so the sound quality will be exactly the same as it is on a CD. The only difference is that your broadband connection may drop out from time to time.

There are qute a few of these "Internet radios" already on the market. The limitation is that you only get the Internet radio station list that the manufacturer provides and updates.

The ultimate home theater solution in my opinion is not just Internet radio but also music downloading in tandem. I have a laptop next to my TV, speakers, and amplifier that has a wireless connection to the Internet. The audio output of the laptop is connected to the audio input of the amplifier and the video output is connected to the video input of the TV.

This way I have all the Internet Radio stations and access to a music library of millions of artists and songs - on demand. All running through quality amps and speakers. I use an external hard drive to store the downloads.

It is the ULTIMATE jukebox.... There isn't a song I can't have in 2 seconds.

The future of music and radio has arrived ! And it is the listener who is now in total control...

I may half to get one of those, but I just cant decide on either getting that or a new laptop.
