Portland radio vets...

Joe you didn't mention WCOD.Was Ernie Boch better to work for than Turner Porter?I don't know either one of them, but the users of this board have had no love for Boch Broadcasting.

I heard the same stories about Ernie and Turner....and fortunately....didn't have the pleasure (?) of working for either! ;D

Isn't it interesting that a certain furniture guy named BOB is using Ernie's old slogan ("Come On Down") in his TV spots! ::)

Harry Nelson - from WJBQ to California to Boston (WODS, WCLB-WBCS-WKLB, WROR) and Ft.Myers (now back at WPOR)
Chuck Morgan - from Boston (WVBF/WIEM) to WJBQ - opened production house, relocated to Ft.Myers and wound up doing mornings at WOLZ.

i'm sure there are a few i've missed (with apologies)

I left Portland in early 1991 to be PD at WXLO, then moved to Denver in 1993. I joined Jones Radio Networks in 1994 and was VP of Programming until the company was sold in 2008. I stayed on with the new company through the transition for almost a year before opening my own consulting biz. My time in Portland (1987-1991) was fun! Jon Holiday

Rob Snyder has been on Q 97.9 {Rob Steele} for years.I believe he left for about a year to work at B103.9 in Fort Myers with his father. He's currently on from 3pm to 10pm.
Jon Bryant has been part of the WPOR morning show for years as Jon Shannon.
The last radio that I heard about that Bud Sawyer was doing was WYAR in Yarmouth.I think he was also on WJZF in Standish.

Hal Knight is living in Florida with his lovely wife doing wonderful things for the visually impaired.

In the interest of shameless self promotion (or shameful confession), my radio trek includes: WMXG (Portland ME) to CRN (New Haven CT) to WIGY/WJTO (Bath ME) to WPOR (Portland ME) to WTHT (Portland ME) to WBACH (Kennebunk ME). Presently I am a weekly segment contributor for a Perth Australia news/talk station. Nice gig but the commute is a bitch.

that must have been some gooooooooooood radio

Portland has always had good radio. The problem was it was off the beaten path and no rocker put a signal south to where it could be heard by those other than Mainers or tourists.

I am amazed at how few airchecks of Portland radio are out there. Anyone have any?

I, Dusty Brooks (WLOB), went from Portland there to WPRO Providence then to Chicago, Denver, Washington, DC and Minneapolis. I came back to NE in 2002 to manage 101 The Fox in Rutland, VT.

Bobby Ocean (WLOB)went to Salinas, CA where he spent years at both KDON & KTOM using the name Johnny Morgan

Rick Snyder (WLOB) is now retired in Florida

On a personal note, I loved the brief period I spent in Portland. I could have worked with Bob Anderson for decades and would have enjoyed every day.

He was the best!

I have over 6 hours of Maine airchecks! Interested in any? let me know. And I have some Bob Anderson, he was a great guy, and he is tragically missed!!
