Classical? On AM? Anywhere that KMKY's signal isn't crap is covered by the FM isn't it? I think they should go for one of EMF's South Bay signals
I'm talking about what's practical, not what people's wishes are. As for classical on AM, perhaps you forget that the Bay Area once had KKHI(AM) and KIBE(AM). While their audiences were small because both stations also had FMs, the lack of classical programming in the Southbay would cause classical-starved people to listen to AM.
KKHI @ 1550 lasted until 1994. Then there was 1510 when it was owned by Saul Levine's Mt. Wilson Broadcasting. First it was KKHI from 1994-95. Then KKHI from 1997-99. Then KMZT came along. Can't remember when but they tried it three times during the time that Saull had it.
I fail to see what's "practical" about listening to classical music on AM. When KKHI-AM and KIBE were operating, 610 and 1260 were still running Top 40 music. Perhaps they survived a few years past that time (into the 90s?) - I don't recall, but if they did, I'm sure their audiences had shrunk to near zero.
I don't live in the South Bay, but if I did, I would NOT listen to classical music on AM. There are too many other hi-fidelity sources; on-line, Music Choice on Comcast..or just bite the bullet and pay the monthly fee for XM/Sirius.
