I note that Radio Disney has been selling off stations. The latest are Louisville and Greensboro. Price of each was $350-375k. Perhaps KMKY 1310 in Oakland might be next? Though like a lot of AMs they throw most of their signal out over the ocean, still they'd be able to fill in some coverage gaps in the Bay Area.

Possible KDFC Repeater?

Classical? On AM? Anywhere that KMKY's signal isn't crap is covered by the FM isn't it? I think they should go for one of EMF's South Bay signals

While their audiences were small because both stations also had FMs, the lack of classical programming in the Southbay would cause classical-starved people to listen to AM.

I don't live in the South Bay, but if I did, I would NOT listen to classical music on AM. There are too many other hi-fidelity sources; on-line, Music Choice on Comcast..or just bite the bullet and pay the monthly fee for XM/Sirius.
Classical on AM does seem impractical. Frankly, some works are impractical to listen on over FM, as well. If the station is really 'purist,' and uses little signal processing, you will constantly be turning up the volume to hear pp passages in the car, then cranking it back down suddenly when a f passage comes roaring through the speakers. Even in a cube at work, this can be a problem, due to the great dynamic range of many classical works.
An advantage to public stations and classical is that they can run much longer works, and ones that may not be one of, as a music director I knew put it, "the top 100 hits of classical music," which is cool. I did a free jazz show for 8 years on a public station. It was a labor of love, the GM and I had gone to college together, and he let me play whatever I wanted, since he knew I had a music degree, and had played both classical and jazz music for a living.
