Post-Baisden: Skip Murphy affiliation watch and others going back local

Today is the first day of the Skip Murphy show. So far, from scanning a few stations online, identical yes.com playlists and Facebook rumblings, stations like WAMJ Atlanta, KMJK Kansas City, KMEZ New Orleans, KQXL Baton Rouge, and WKJM/WKJS Richmond have taken on Skip Murphy in place of Michael Baisden. A handful went with Doug Banks such as WRBV Macon, while others like WHUR Washington DC and WHQT Miami opted not to take on Skip. Even WHUR pulled a country western prank to grab the attention of listeners to seek help with selecting a new PM drive personality.

Orlando and Greenville,SC also opted out! Im mad that here in ATL they picked up Skip. It sounds too much like a morning show format and lots of talk despite of what the press release said. Here, MAJIC didn't even warn listeners of a new show which i think will hurt them considering they finally cracked #2 in the overall market ratings.

This is a negative, how?

KRMP AM 1140 & 92.1FM Oklahoma City is going local in the afternoon with KVSP veteran Scott Wright for now. Perry's other stations KGTO Tulsa and KKRX Lawton already air Doug Banks in the evening. Nothing is listed on their sites for 2 til 6 yet? I know KGTO streams but KKRX doesnt.

Hot 1077,Birmingham,soul classics 1035 memphis,1041 WDLT Mobile, and 94.1 huntsville all have Skip Murphy,I do not think he's going to make it.A lot of people are pissed off for baisden's show being pulled .

I mentioned Miami already, so Cox wants nothing to do with Skip, and Clear Channel replaced Baisden with Doug Banks instead. Soul 106.3 in Chicago is the only Top 3 market to take Skip Murphy but then again most syndication in NY and LA came and went.

Adding to the Cumulus list: Tallahassee, Nashville, Albany and Shreveport. KOKY Little Rock has Skip as well although Citadel cut the station loose long before the Cumulus merger.

I didn't take it either... Went local in Monroe,LA on Mix 101.9...
glad you did not take it,show is garbage.

Not at all unfair to declare a radio show 'garbage' after ONE broadcast, no sir.

I did not like what I heard not on here to fuss at someone about my thought of the show

"Show is garbage" in one breath, and "Cox is playing it smart" in another. You don't really expect anyone to believe the former declaration had no influence on the latter, do you?

THAT'S WHAT I SAID DUDE,I'M NOT GOING TO FUSS ABOUT THIS SO JUST DROP IT.

I understand that there are a lot of Baisden fans out there, but let's remember that the move was made by Cumulus management and not Skip Murphy.

The major problem I see is the fact that Baisden's listeners and fans didn't get a formal fairwell or an explanation of what happened. My mom came to me and ask what happened to Micahel Baisden. I explained and she replied she switched to Cox's KISS 104.1 where Art Terell islive and local here. With most syndicated shows, the radio host are already known before taking on the airwaves. Harvey and Smiley were well known comedians and television host which Im sure is responsible for there high ratings. Nobody really knew who Big Boy is and we see what happened to his show.

Very true. I am a big believer that most people prefer local radio. I am a huge fan of Skip from his days in Dallas, but I think that he is put in a bad position. His show is a different format of Baisden's show, so either way Baisden's listeners will opt for an alternative. Skip may keep a few, but he will need to attract a new batch of listener to succeed which probably will be difficult with so many options.

I have gotten tons of positive comments for just doing a simple show with tons of music. I have received no negative comments at all for removing Baisden. I am glad I did not take that show and get locked into an agreement.

Some of the things listeners have commented on is how nice our music sounds. They said they enjoyed the Baisden content, but he played the same old songs over and over again each week.

How about an afternoon traffic mix? I always felt Baisden's show should've had a 30 mintue mixshow.
