There's a DX test tonight! KCUP 1230 in Toledo, Ore., will test with sweep tones, morse code and IDs from 1-9 a.m. ET Sat night/Sun morning. How far can 1 kw on a jammed graveyard channel go? Here's one way to find out.
Chances of hearing this one here in Chicago ranges from not likely to impossible, but I will give it a try.

New here in the SW suburbs of Chicago on 810: WCKA Jacksonville, Ala. at 11:33 p.m. CT with country music, with a couple of station slogans (without formal ID); matched against SDR in Atlanta and the station's online stream. WGY nulled. Most likely running 50 kw rather than the licensed 500 w for night operation.

Heard WCKA also. At 11:31 with WGY nulled and "WCKA Alabama Classic Country" slogan. New one for me as well.

KCUP easily audible literally everywhere on the west coast. Locally, they are in mixed with many others. CW, sweeps and busy signals. Also heard in SE Alberta, in Victoria, in Seattle, in Moses Lake, and tentative loggings in Southern California so far.

But the kicker...KCUP was just heard (by yours truly) on the AI6VN/KH6 KiwiSDR in *MAUI*!!! 2,471 miles away and the sweeps/CW came in. This shatters the distance record for that station.

I have audio to upload later tonight or tomorrow. Whoa! Go get 'em Midwest!

Noticed it on the southern Nevada SDR and just barely for a short time on the Winnipeg SDR. No luck here yet in Chicago thanks to WJOB and other pests.

As expected no sign of KCUP until now. Did hear a new station while trying though. WSOO Sault Ste Marie, MI at 1:06 am CST briefly with ID. Station playing classic rock (incl. Hotel California) fading in and out, but otherwise it's just a jumbled mess.

Paul Walker (someradioguy) just heard KCUP in McGrath, AK.
This test is a success with a capital S!

Orange County, TX WCKA has been a regular visitor here quite frequently this winter. First logged them 12-1-2018 around 8:00 AM Id'ed them by TOH ID.

1230 here this morning was the usual mess. So no Toledo, OR. But I have heard the 1230 from Toledo, OH (as WCWA) a couple of times! :)

At some point around 1:16 am CST I thought I heard bits and pieces of code, but not enough to get any ID out of it. I have it recorded and will listen to it to see if I can make any sense out of. The test appears to have been a big success with reports of being heard as far as Minnesota and Ontario.

Here's my audio of the KCUP test:

#2 at 11:29pm AK time, there's about 30 seconds worth of morse code. Audio: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17nds-KbDRa1n7rSEFgp9xFi09vPElpR4/view?usp=sharing

I just checked distances.. and KGOW is 3480 miles from me, give or take a few miles. It's not the furthest east station I've heard, as I logged WWJ 950 Detroit about a month ago.... but KGOW is the farthest away US/50 state station I've logged.. and yes, ive had Hawaii too, but its closer.

I've had farther away north american signals, namely XEW 900.. but again, KGOW is the farthest station I've logged from one of the 50 us states.

Do you ever hear any of the Chicago 50KW blowtorches? I know KNOM is on 780 probably giving WBBM some trouble. Maybe WGN or one of the others?
