Good catch. Sorry I missed it.
Great catch! How hard was Spain to get? Did you need to narrow the bandwidth to eliminate hash from 680 and 690, etc?Excellent conditions so far this evening on the AM band here in Chicago. Many Cubans and Mexicans with good signals noted. Also had Spain on 684 kHz fading in and out at 8 pm CST.
Good job! This morning here in Overland Park, Kansas from 3:50 to 4:10am CST, I received a listenable CBK on 540 kHz, a rare occurrence here at 1,183 miles. There was a consistent low hum present. Perhaps, a het from a nearby frequency of offshore origin.

I think I heard it yesterday evening here in Chicago.. a Canadian news station on 540 and that's the most likely option (There's a 10 KW news station in Newfoundland on 540 but I'd say that is highly unlikely). This would be the first time I'd ever heard it at my home location, though I've heard it before away from the buildings here. This morning here in Overland Park, Kansas from 3:50 to 4:10am CST, I received a listenable CBK on 540 kHz, a rare occurrence here at 1,183 miles. Great work. Congrats! It wasn't easy. After seeing tips on Facebook that Spain was coming in very well on the east coast and also that 684 kHz was heard in Michigan I decided to give it a try. I tuned in at around 7:30 pm CST and there was a faint signal present. The signal was fading in and out quite a bit. Around 7:50 the signal faded in quite well where I was able to determine that the language was Spanish and the programming was English pop songs, which I was able to match to the Radio Nacional stream. I was using the 4 kHz bandwidth setting on my radio to hear the station. I tried for the other Spanish stations that are usually heard in North America. I had a very faint signal on 585 kHz, but not enough to get an ID. Nothing was noticed on 855 kHz.
You are right. CBK used to dominate 540, however this has not been the case the last few years. However the past two weeks I have noticed them with fair to good signals on top of WAUK.For most of the last decade CBK was the dominant signal on 540 at my location 40 miles northwest of downtown Chicago.
Thanks for the info. There's a DX test tonight! KCUP 1230 in Toledo, Ore., will test with sweep tones, morse code and IDs from 1-9 a.m. ET Sat night/Sun morning. How far can 1 kw on a jammed graveyard channel go? Here's one way to find out.
Not sure, but a KCUP must be really big.KCUP-Which came first, the radio station or the instant coffee maker container racket?
