Post your latest DX

TENTATIVE: CFAJ from St. Catherines, ON (Niagara Falls area) 1kw ND on 1220. Oldies taking over for WHKW (ex-WGAR) during fades about 90 minutes before sunrise this morning. Didn't get a positive ID, but SRF-37 oriented east-west, which would've nulled WLPO. WLPO is 500 watts nighttime with an unfavorable pattern in my direction . That would have been the only other station that would have fit . Also the path to that general area was good with CFZM and CJBC strong and WTAM destroying KAAY with near-local grade splatter. About as strong as I've ever heard it....(and WHKW stronger than usual, fades notwithstanding).

Checked out the Westfjords, Iceland SDR around 0600Z. Good DX from the east coast, WBZ good, WINS strong, WBBR strong, WJR weak, WYLL weak with hets. WEGP Presque Isle, Maine--good signal.

No, I'm looking for stations carrying High School Football that I haven't heard yet. Lots of Intermountain West graveyarders that I haven't heard yet. But if the conditions remain southerly, that won't happen...
Believe me, there are plenty of station owners who think they are entitled to "Friday Night Lights" unofficial "STAs". You'd think the FM Translators would be enough. But many stations don't have them. They should lose a few LPFMs and replace them with translators. They should allow stations to apply for STAs for translators that fit in immediately. Not that expensive if they put the antenna on an existing co owned tower, and take it off if necessary if new allotments make it a prohibited frequency.

Can now confirm it. Again, about 90 minutes before sunrise this morning. The signal was actually weaker than yesterday. But I hung out on 1220 for more than a half hour and CFAJ broke through a few WHKW fades with oldies, Can-Con, and "Classic 1220" branding. 458 miles on the Sony SRF 37-Walkman.

Are we sure they're 1kw nd? they have a license for something else, but i know they've tested with 1kw ND before.

I've heard them once here in Alaska... here's my audio. THe station with the music is them... listen at the very very end .. "Another hour of great music on 1220 cfaj st chatarines niagra"

More Westfjords Iceland SDR reports from Monday morning Oct 18 at 4:45AM EDT. WBT good, WBZ very good, KDKA good, looking for WMVP, but instead a strong and steady signal from KOMO. Most of Europe in daylight so North American signals were good.

Did some early morning Dxing (7am MDT or so in Cheyenne, WY), and I got conservative talk on 1560 and country music on 1420. I suspect this is KNZR Bakersfield and either KMOG Payson or KTJS Hobart, but perhaps you could lead me in the right direction, please?

Look at KSTN Stockton CA for the country music especially if its hotter/newer country.

I'll definitely look into that, the country music did sound more modern. Thanks for the idea!
I heard them quite regularly in Wy right around just after sunrise.. sometimes not well, sometimes only for 10-20 seconds... sometimes for alot longer.

Have anyone heard 1600 KUBA at Night?

KGST from Fresno, CA come in over the Slop in Carmichael mosty, But Last Night I heard KUBA

I'm expecting there on Day Power

I was sitting in the car in the Drive Thru of a Culver's in SE Michigan, When ordering, I saw the small map of Wisconsin on the menu screen (Culver's is based in WI). Keep this in mind while you read the DX reports. I was listening to AM BC on the car radio.

This evening at 6:05 PM EDT, I heard The Star Spangled Banner on 1330. Does anyone know of a station on 1330 that signs off?

A few minutes later, there was a Foreign Language program on 1330, most likely WKTA Evanston. Then a Talk station airing Mark Levin on 1330. 1330 and 101.5. Spots for Northern Wisconsin. WHBL Sheboygan, WI.

Turned the dial to 1360. Mark Levin once again. Mentions of Wisconsin. Heard them ID, WTAQ.

Turned the dial to 1440. Sports Talk. Mentions of WI. WNFL.

Tried to get WIBD 1470 West Bend (formerly WBKV). No WIBD. A mix of signals, then WMBD Peoria emerged.

All while waiting in the Drive Thru.

Tried the more powerful stations in Northern Michigan, 27000 watt WMKT 1270. Heard WXYT. Tried WCCW with 3250 watts nondirectional STA on 1310. Heard WDTW. Tried 10000 watt WJML 1110. Heard WBT, with something that could have been WJML in the background.

Good stuff!

We have a local donut shop here in Crystal Lake that attracts customers for miles around. It's a regular Sunday morning stop for me after church, which involves about ten or fifteen minutes to get through the drive thru. Long story short, that drive thru is one of my favorite spots for post-sunrise DX. The DX catches are usually as good as the legendary donuts. For example, where else around here can you hear CINA blowing out a strong KXEL? Just one example from last winter.

Sometimes you can use the building of the drive-thru to advantage to block a local signal. I've gotten a clear copy on WOAI San Antonio despite the presence of local pest WRTO because a particular drive thru blocks it perfectly, at least for 25 feet or so. Curious to try this with the AM on the new car.

I used to try that blocking technique, but the noise floor next to most Drive Thrus is very high.

There was a record store in Mecosta County that I used to park in front of to hear WTRX instead of WHBL on 1330, which was strong across Lake Michigan. It was on the East side of the building, which was just one story.

It's been a weird one tonight.
I was dxing WJR Detroit around 10:30pm MDT (which at 11pm CDT plays Ben Shapiro), when it seemingly faded into Mark Levin, which was odd. At first I thought it was something with WJR, but a look at other 760's leads me to KGB San Diego (808 miles), a brand new catch. Then, I noticed KCOL was being eaten up by someone doing Dave Ramsey. This search led me to WMT Des Moines (600 mi), a new log. Finally, there was old timey music (compared to their normal) on 740 AM, which I immediately figured to be CFZM Toronto (1,200 mi), a re-log. AM season may be upon us yet!

Also, a friend of mine in New Jersey also got FM e-skip from Iowa, so again, crazy times!

Might have to try it sometime; my locals are pests, however they are beginning to loosen their grip for the winter, a perfect time for new catches!
