Post your latest DX

1190 Radio Cordillera, Bogato, Colombia, listed 5 watts.

HJVC in Bogotá has been 10 kw for decades.

930, mix of Radio Reloj and something else (did not match the listed Colombian "Besame"...that's right, Kiss Me Radio)--TENTATIVE WIAC but not sure.

930 // to WIAC is WYAC Cabo Rojo, PR. In PR, "Y" can be pronounced as "eee" which is the same as the letter "I". (And "W" can be "dowblay veh" or "dowbley eww" at a user's choice.)

790- Radio Minuto, Barquisimeto, Venezuela, not seeming all that affected by the turmoil, just playing tunes

During times of turmoil in Latin America, stations often opt to play music so as not to be accused of wrongdoing if things don't turn out well for those who take political positions during such events.

I said 5 watts? It was late. MWList indicates 5kW but I'll go with the 10kw.
Appreciate your insights, David!

650 WSM / Nashville, Tenn. / Comes in very clear, I've found myself listening to it quite a bit lately.
870 WWL / New Orleans, Lou. / Barely audible except once in a blue moon.
780 WBBM / Chicago, Ill. / Only comes in at night, very noisy however.
1090 KAAY / Little Rock, Ark. / Comes in about as well as WSM.
1120 KMOX / St. Louis, Mo. / Like WSM and KAAY, comes in really well.
1200 WOAI / San Antonio, Tex. / Mostly noisy, but it varies from day to day.
1260 KBDT / Dallas, Tex. / Caught this one on a night that they re-aired an old radio drama. Listened to the whole thing without any signal problems.
Not to mention Radio Reloj, which operates on three or four different frequencies which I can pick up, as well as the countless Spanish-language stations which are usually so garbled that I can barely understand what's happening.

[Just a heads up - I'm not experienced with this stuff (at all) so my explanations may be amusing to some of the old-timers out here. I don't have anything souped-up yet (I use a Realistic Modulaire 1000 14-773, for chrissakes) so anyone in my area who would even care to look could easily find these. These are some of the ones I documented on my last DX attempt, on January 4th.]

It impresses me how consistently strong WSM comes in for so many people. I hear it very well at night in Chicago, even in my concrete apartment building if I put the radio near the window. When I grew up in California I'd even hear it with some regularity, and the signal was the strongest of any of the very distant AM radio stations I could pick up there.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the late 1930s vintage Blaw-Knox antenna tower has something to do with that. Same goes for WLW, which also has one of those. Two of the best non-directional skywave signals at my home QTH.

Are these "half wave" antennas?

Bob

The Blaw Knox towers might have a little better bandwidth as more three dimensional towers, making the audio sound a little better. But I don't think the skywave is any better than say, WLS (and win!). The skywave may be a little better because WLW and WSM are further from the geomagnetic North Pole, according to the new skywave model.

In addition to a new log (1580 KWLO-UT) last night, other logs included:

1530 Male and female in SS discussion under KFBK, likely KGBT Harlingen TX
1370 KRAC Quincy CA (tentative) with Red Eye Radio under KXTL/KAST, and KSOP UT with classic country way underneath that
1420 Hints of Coast to Coast way, way under KUJ (with Sean Hannity repeat) and KITI. Possibly Mankato MN? The Midwest blasters were doing well last night.
1410 KWYO Sheridan WY IDed 0153 PT, mixing with CFTE
1240 KQEN Roseburg (common relog)
1490 KDBM Dillon MT 'Your hometown radio station, KDBM Dillon, AM 1490' at 0200 PT into CBS News
580 1000hz tone under KIDO, KTMT etc.-who was this?

Tonight I logged my first AM station from another continent - 780 Radio Viva in Pasto, Colombia - 5 kW at 2,395 miles!

Around 10 p.m. CT I was listening to XESFT in the partial null of WBBM. My CCRadio-2E and Terk loop antenna were aimed NW/SE. At 10:11, XESFT suddenly disappeared. I hung around to see what might show up and heard some very weak talk that was likely KKOH; however, I was unable to hear enough intelligble bits to match against the station's stream.

At 10:51, I started hearing a weak signal with Spanish-language talk. There were two Radio Viva IDs followed by "Ojitos Traidores" by Javier Solís. This was followed by another classic-sounding Spanish-language song that I was unable to identify. The station was then gone for good.

A bit later after doing research and figuring out what I'd heard (and recorded), I listened to Radio Viva's stream. They were playing music in that same vein, including another Javier Solís song.

WBBM and WSCR were off the air on Saturday morning and Sunday morning. I missed the Saturday morning silent period, but managed to listen on Sunday morning.

Nothing new was heard. On 670 Radio Rebelde Cuba was dominating with WWFE in the background playing Spanish language music and mentions of La Ponderosa. Full ID in English at 2 am.

Surprisingly on 780 I heard nothing but noise in the 2 hours that I was listening. Of note was a strong signal of KFGO Fargo, ND on 790. On the other side frequencies just the usual blow torcher.

Nice catch! I've never heard KFGO at my home location. They have an impressive day signal, but at night there's a null to the southeast, so I'm guessing they may have been on day pattern. But whatever, it's still a nice catch.

Nice catch. It's always cool to hear South America. I have only heard South America once, before the frequencies between 700-900 khz became clogged with numerous regionals, when I heard a Colombian station in the 800's somewhere. Can't remember the frequency or calls, because I do not have my logs handy, but I think it was a station in Barranquilla.

Just a couple of small tidbits from the beach near Pensacola. I'm still being plagued by a noise source on the lower end of the AM band that I haven't been able to pin down....

800: I've been checking in here from time to time to check PJB fron Bonaire. My understanding is that they're aiming a lobe of their 500kw signal at Cuba, Which would put me on the western edge of said lobe. The signal here....after what I understand to be their 7pmCST pattern switch...has been "fair" at best.
If anythng, a little weaker than last year. So I'm not sure if they've been tweaking their pattern or if they've encountered a few issues getting their flamethrower up to full power. Radio: GE Superadio II

1290: "Just for fun", I've been hanging out here to see if I can snag WIRL. The channel has actually been relatively quiet, but with WHIO briefly rising to the top from time to time. Yesterday before dawn, WIRL finally did break through for a couple of minutes. No such luck since. Radio: Sony SRF-37 Walkman.

I logged HJZO-680 Barranquila back in October 2018. Still one of my best non-Asian catches. I couldn't believe it when 'Radio Nacional de Colombia' was the ID under KNBR at 2 in the morning! NOT the usual CJOB! That was also during the time of unprecedented TP DX for me, and the new logs of KICY and KFQD.

Good DX this early morning on the Hawaii SDR. Hearing lots from the midwest. Both WGN & WBBM overriding the Western stations on each frequency.
I heard WLW, not an easy task with other stations closer and a Honolulu local on 690.

Heard the WION test with test tones between 11:35 - 12:13 CST. Good at times. KZQZ and WXNT fading in and out and dominating the frequency. Bonus catch was WYMC (Mayfield, KY) which faded in briefly with ID and Journey song.

Major surprise at a little before 4pm CDT this afternoon (2100 GMT). 3 hours before sunset. Fair signal from WRRD Waukesha, WI. 23kw from 53 miles north of me. But I'm directly in a very deep null, and I've never heard it here before. Not ever. Signal was fair, but all alone. No trace of the Joliet, IL 1510....or for that matter WLAC.

My guess is an STA....perhaps 5.75kw ND, which would be about right for the strength of signal I was hearing. Maybe you guys who think you might be within range would want to check this out. Format is progressive talk. WRRD is a daytimer that's supposed to also drop to 20kw (same pattern) during critical hours.

Happy hunting!
