I can do ya even one better.. this is KPYV 1340 Oroville, CA from Sunday December 27 at 635pm AK Time... about 200 miles further then KVTO, and even clearer then KVTO at times.

I can do ya even one better.. this is KPYV 1340 Oroville, CA from Sunday December 27 at 635pm AK Time... about 200 miles further then KVTO, and even clearer then KVTO at times.
That's why I was surprised that WLS was coming in over Cuba. Maybe there was skywave cancellation.

Great catch. Congratulations! Only within the last few years have I become a fane of GY channel DX, but I'm having loads of fun with it. If you're patient, it's amazing what can turn up!
Nice! Especially WSCR. R. Rebelde usually blows out WSCR in Pensacola and throughout the deep south. Not to mention Key West!
WMFN is actually one of the strongest Chicago sticks along the west shore of Michigan. In fact, a few days ago, I heard an ad in Spanish for a Grand Rapids car dealership on WMFN! Ironically, WMFN used to be much closer to Grand Rapids before they moved out to Peotone
I guess they're still advertising to that area.
I've been checking out Key West tonight. It seems Trans World Radio/PJB on 800 must have cut back its schedule a little bit, they are off by 1am AST, leaving someone playing "Dedicated to the One I Love" by the Mamas and the Papas". (Maybe Palatka) then faded into background hash, a few minutes later by Coast to Coast AM (which was CKLW I believe)-and and EAS tone (not from CKLW obviously). The Key West SDR was built and operated by Trans World Radio, presumably to monitor itself. From the north, WLW was the strongest, no sign of WLS, I caught WGN, WHO and WBZ. There was a strong and very overmodulated Radio Progreso outlet on 730.
I don't know if this is the case here, but TWR broadcasts part of the day in Portuguese aimed at Brazil. At those times, there would be no signal towards North America.
On 1220 tonight looking for WCPH TN's DX test.
The only sign is a very tentative 'siren' noise around 10:58pm PT (they had started one hour early). I will confirm this with Les Rayburn.
Otherwise - KSLM Salem OR w/ Dave Ramsey and Brian Kilmeade shows; KDOW San Jose CA w/ Old Time Radio; CJRB Boissevain MB w/ Classical; and a very weak Conservative talker underneath all of them, likely KHTS Canyon Country CA.
Hoping for the best as we have a little more time to go.

Their website says they broadcast in a variety of languages from 7pm-1am, then 4:30am-7am (Atlantic Standard).
WLS was in the night before much to my surprise. It was usually well over Cuba. WBBM was in too. WLW was like a local--very strong!
First time catch for me (IIRC) this morning about a half hour before local surise. 6:45am CST (1245 UTC), On 1490, KRIB from Mason City, IA with oldies and positive ID. On top of the mess for a little over 5 minutes, then disappeared. Distance approx 300 miles.
KRIB's claim to fame (or at least one of them), is that they promoted what's now known as "The Day the Music Died" show innearby Clear Lake, Iowa in February 1959, The emcee was KRIB's Bob Hale, who went on to become one of the "Original seven" (jocks) at WLS when they flipped to top 40 in 1960.

Nice catch! I had a chance to meet Bob Hale many many years ago when he was with WLS. I was a teenager very interested in radio and he took the time to talk to me about it and answer all my questions.
Houston local KEYH 850 has gone silent (as of 11:55pm on 12/31), possibly permanently. They were a pest for me, making 850 difficult and slopping over to 840 and 850. So far, with them gone, new ones for me are KTIC on 840, WXJC and KFUO on 850, and XEUN on 860.
While it's sad to see stations go silent, it's fun to have new frequencies to try.

Our local 850 also went silent several months ago. 2.5kw daytimer, directional NW-SW. The TX site was about 3 miles from my house, and the southeast lobe was aimed right at me. Not much effect on 840, with me being about 60 miles beyond the daytime range of WHAS. But on 860, I can now hear WNOV from Milwaukee on 250 watt day power. Distance is about 65 miles and the resultant signal is weak but listenable.
Good reception on the Iceland SDR Saturday night/Sunday morning about 0545UTC. WEGP from Maine on 1390 quite strong.

Waking up too early sometimes has its benefits. This morning's payoff was two new catches on 1600 within 14 minutes of each other.
First up out of the mush at 5:46 a.m. CT was WZZW Milton, W.Va., with an odd promo for "Radio 800 WVHU." That checks out on the MWList website as a simulcast from Huntington, but it threw me for a minute. Listed at 5 kw.
Next at 6 a.m. sharp was WKKX Wheeling, W.Va., with a legal ID for it and other stations in its orbit. Likely powering up to 5 kw from the 33 watts it uses overnight.
AM stations 500 and 501 heard here. Was hoping to hit the round number by the end of 2020 but I'll settle for New Year's Weekend, and along came a bonus.
At this moment (6:15) there are several stations on 1600 vying for my attention, at least two playing music. And no sign of old stalwart WWRL.
