New user here (Hi!).

Been a few days back (February 4, 21:15) but picked up WCKA AM 810 in Jacksonville, Alabama from my location west of Orlando, Florida. Signal was loud and clear, almost no fading. Positive station ID. Straight line distance is 462 miles. They're supposedly running 500W at night. Radio is my Zenith Deluxe Royal 755 LG using built-in ferrite antenna.
Welcome. Always glad to have another DXer aboard.

Pretty decent daytime skywave here around 1:30pm CST this afternoon. I had moved the car out of my driveway to the street and was sitting in it while my snowplow guy was here, No new catches, but below are a few that either aren't normally audible or only just barely audible here during daytime.....

630: CFCO - Country music audible under St. Louis. First time for me daytime
700: WLW - Usually just barely audible, Today was significantly stronger (albeit still weak)
740: CFZM - Tentative....oldies. Weak but on top of something else unidentifiable
760: WJR - Similar to WLW but a little stronger
800: KXIC - Iowa City. 1kw. Occasionally audible here daytime. Today was stronger than I've ever heard it. No CKLW
1150: WHBY - First time for me during daytime
1170: WFDL - Also first time for me during daytime. Stronger tha than it's neighbor (40 miles) WHBY

Let me add my welcome as well. You're always among friends here.

Nice catch witth WCKA. Isn't there an 810 operating in the Orlando area. I seem to remember it as an oldies station around 10-15 years ago when I was on a family trip to Disney. If memory serves, it had a mediocre signal daytime, and even worse at night. Is that signal still around, and if so, is it even a factor at your location?

Welcome and nice catch – especially with a 62-year-old radio. The quality really did go in at Zenith.

There is a WRSO operating on 810 in the area. Currently Spanish language news/talk. They're pretty low wattage at night. I had some kind of music/talk in the background of a bunch of far-off station noise last night on a DX session on 810. Probably them.

KEWE 1240 Kahului, Hi (MAUI) with island music about 1025pm AK Time Tues. Feb 16th. 5KW non directional at 3000 miles. Class C/ClassIV/“Graveyarders” don’t exist in Alaska or Hawaii, they’re all Class Bs and not limited to 1KW

CFAJ 1220 Saint Catharines, Ontario logged in Alaska!

Yeah, I know what you're probably thinking...impossible! I wouldn't have believed it had I not heard it with my own two ears and even though I did, I still have a hard time believing it.

On Thursday February 11, I had a fairly decent signal of classical music which is none other than CJRB Boissevan, Manitoba. I had some spanish language stuff bubble up which I assumed to be XEB Mexico City with was further fueled by some fairly LOUD classic hits music I heard a minute or two later.. Mexican news/talk/sports stations are known to play music at night.

Boy was I surprised AND FLOORED when I heard the station ID. At 1026pm AK Time "Stoney End" by Barbara Streisand faded up very nicely and overtook the channel.. 45 seconds in classical music began to take over but if you listen at about 1 minute 12 seconds, you'll hear "Another hour of great music on 1220 CFAJ Saint Catharines, Niagra"

Here's the audio of it:

What makes this VERY interesting is .. what was CFAJ operating with? They had been testing with 1000 Watts non directional but Scott Fyb ush surmises they are on their 10kw 9 tower night pattern by now.

Directly from the relevant Canadian databases, here's the 10kw 9 tower CFAJ night pattern: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UtHrS-64kYGL1LKyJKWkCpWbT65H1S4x/view?usp=sharing

Around late January/early February WCKA was running daytime power at night sometimes and sounded very strong in south Mississippi, similar to WSM and WSB. I heard it on some of the webSDRs in North Carolina and Key West.

I listen to the Kaneohe, Hi SDR often and I can hear Alaska quite often. Mostly KNOM makes it to Hawaii, sometimes with a pretty good signal.

Tremendous catch--congratulations!

Welcome and nice catch – especially with a 62-year-old radio. The quality really did go in at Zenith.
Great catch indeed. Those old Zeniths were built like tanks. My cousin had a Trans-Oceanic. I had a lot of fun with that one back in the day.

Earlier tonight at around 10:30 PM CST I heard 1160 KSL with call sign mention and ad for a Utah financial business. The signal briefly faded up enough for the HD indicator to flash. This is the first time I heard this station. Usually the station I get on 1160 is WYLL in Chicago. The westernmost station that I receive regularly is KOA 850 in Denver, and that is often covered up by WXJC Birmingham, AL.

And you are where?

I've heard WYLL and KSL here in Alaska... no KOA, yet.

If you are in Mississippi (ente), then I guess you must get WYLL on their daytime pattern, maybe during critical hours. Their night pattern is north.

Though I have heard that Salem would like to consolidate Day and Night operations at Lockport, I'm not sure that that it would be a wise decision since WYLL has one of the best to the best signal in the Northern parts of Chicago and the Northern Suburbs.

When WJJD stayed on at 50 kW until Sunset in Salt Lake City, they had a quasi Class I-B skywave signal in much of the Eastern United States.
That is true. I remember picking them up on the east coast a few times before evening signoff.
That was a long time ago. Now there are many more stations on 1160 in the eastern half of the US.

Here in the Seattle area, I managed to hear WYLL a couple times in back of KSL, and logged it once. Was one of those lucky times when prop was better earlier last decade. KSL is usually S3-S4 here most nights. HD indicator will blink, but as for HD, no go.
