Good signal from KXEX 1550 Fresno CA tonight in Mesa AZ as I write this. They run 2500 watts at night, but they have a lobe toward the southeast. It's coming in better than 50 kW KFBK Sacramento and 10 kW KNZR Bakersfield.

Not only is this the first time I've heard this station, but it's coming in well with the radio inside my stucco-encrusted (30 or 40 dB attenuator), palatial East Mesa abode. Normally, I can't even get KTAR 620 well in here.

I’m spending this week visiting my father in law in Manchester CA, on the coast~150 miles northwest of San Francisco. The house is right on the cliff overlooking the ocean so would be a good DX spot except for terrible RF noise. I’ve heard the conditions have been poor, but this morning about a half hour before sunrise I walked until I found a quiet spot, armed with the 7600GR with internal antenna only. I’ve never DXed from here before but had some idea what to try for. I’m about as close to Japan as you can get on the US mainland, so unsurprisingly Japan predominated. A sample:

594 JOAK Tokyo NHK1 fair/good
693 JOAB Tokyo NHK2 good //747 w/English lesson
747 JOIB Sapporo very strong at times //693
774 JOUB Akita NHK2 strong
891 HLKB presumed w/loud het and muffled talk
972 HLCA Korean talk vy strong, slopping over domestics on 970 at times

These were all heard in a 30 minute period ending at my local sunrise. The upper band was poor, but 1566 Korea and a couple of others started coming up as I was leaving, so maybe I should’ve stayed longer.

Some of them were at ‘armchair volume’ at times with long fades typical of long distance reception (4,000+ miles), very cool with a barefoot portable radio. I’ll be back out there again before we leave!

I don't know how I didn't know about the Elizabeth City, NC SDR before.

Right now at 3 pm local time there, 1340 WMID Atlantic City has a nice good steady signal and no other stations are even present on that frequency.

WFAN and WCBS New York have weak but very listenable signals.

WABC is not as strong.

Will be looking to see what else I can get.

I'll have to give that one a spin.

Conditions were a bit better this morning. The highlight was hearing the unmistakable ABC News fanfare at 0700PDT on 612. Presumably 4QR Brisbane, ~7,100 miles from here. The distance rivals my reception of VOA São Tomé 1530 and Vesti FM 1413 Moldova when I lived in Perth. Pretty amazing what a relatively clear band and noise-free oceanfront location will do.

Other highlights included China Radio International Russian service 1323, CNR1 1593, and lots of Japanese. NHK2 runs English lessons starting at 0700PDT. 747 and 774 were very strong at that time, louder than the domestic offsets. I would think worth trying for from inland locations.

San Francisco KNBR-680 into DFW with a nice signal 10/21 0400 with CBS Sports and ToH ID. KFEQ nulled with no KKYX. Checked for KFI or KCBS, not heard. KNX is only heard when KRLD-1080 IBOC is off.

9670khz via Moosbrunn, Austria, beaming at 60 degrees with Voice of The Report Of The Week International ... 1640UTC in Alaska with decent signal, some choppy fading, male host and light my fire by the doors followed by another song.

I've tried multiple times to hear KNBR but KKYX has been too strong to pick out anything. A 90 degree null of KKYX from here aims straight at KFEQ. I'll have to give it another try.

its interesting how one mans pest(s) is another DX.. i heard all of those 680's from WY.

I have a few pests up here, including a few you wouldnt suspect.. like KLAM 1450

The other night, KFRM, the big 550 AM 5k signal out of north central Kansas, came in well here, in Austin, Texas. Turning my Grundig one way brought KFRM. Turning the other, a very weak KTSA, which is weak even in the day, much weaker than I would anticipate.

Finally AM DXing after a LONG wait.

580 KUBC Montrose CO // stream 'Baby I Love Your Way' Will to Power, under KIDO. KIDO Coast to Coast audio cutting in and out repeatedly.
1370 KSOP South Salt Lake UT // stream 'Lady Lay Down' John Conlee, way under KXTL
Pop music on 1580 under KGAL, likely KKTS Evansville WY.

KSTP weaker than normal, not hearing KXEL or WBBM

FWIW, KXEL has seemed slightly weaker than usual at my location as of late. Not sure if something might be up with them. KSTP has been weak, but still reliable around here. Which is normal. WBBM, of course, is a local. On my road trip through the Ontario northwoods last month, WBBM was solid at every overnight stop.

KPBX-FM 91.1 Spokane WA heard earlier today, a NEW log to the Yakima logbook. Many local FMs were off the air for some reason, and KYPL was one of them. NPR programming, specifically This American Life, in the noon hour. 174 mi.

The others off...K205FT-88.9, K241CV-96.1, KXDD-104.1, KHHK-99.7, KYXE-104.9, K229AD-93.7. KCSH Ellensburg heard on 88.9, KQFM Hermiston OR on 93.7, and KLKY Stanfield OR on 96.1 (open carrier, no classic rock). KLKY was the usual station heard prior to the 2019 sign-on for K241CV. Was hoping to find the Milton-Freewater OR translator on 99.7 (would also be new), just static all over town.

DFW, Texas -- Sangean ATS-909X

One new station logged 10/24/2022 0714 CDT. 930 kHz KSDN Aberdeen, SD fair to poor with local ad for Aberdeen Public Library event and an ad for Graham Tires Store. Mixing with KWOC Poplar Bluff, MO and KLUP San Antonio.

I've been doing some DXing recently for the first time in a while. Nothing exotic, but highlights:

West Houston, TX, Sony ICF-SW7600GR

560 KLZ CO, Denver 10/22 2340 fair/good in KLVI null w/veterans program, //KLZ stream
940 WINZ FL, Miami 10/24 1849 good in XEQ null w/Fox Sports Radio "Odd Couple" program //stream
1120 KETU OK, Catoosa 10/23 0006 good on top of KMOX, KTXW w/SS pop, clear ID as Radio Diferente. Daytimer on late.
1190 KJJI AR, White Hall 10/24 2307, on top with deep cut "Not My Cross to Bear" from Allman Bros //stream. Rare here, maybe on day power?
1260 WSDZ IL, Belleville 10/24 1904 very strong in KBRH null w/Relevant Radio. No sign of usual KSGF, KTAE Still on day power?.
1340 KWKC TX, Abilene 10/24 2318 briefly on top w/ads for local Abilene businesses.
1360 KNIR LA, New Iberia 10/17 2000, poor w/local KWWJ, KKTX, and others. Faded up on the hour (!) w/clear Radio Maria ID.

West Houston, TX, Sony ICF-SW7600GR

Local KBRZ 1460 was off the air last night. The frequency was dominated by WXOK, "Heaven 95.7, Baton Rouge's Inspiration Station". Listed at 290 watts night power, but these days, who knows?

Everything North, East, and West weaker. R & B Oldies on 1090 with 102.7 translator in Greenwood. Determined to be WCZZ Greenwood, SC at 9:45 PM EDT. Apparently KAAY with Snydicated Religion Talk Format alternating with it. Everything from South stronger than usual. Too cloudy or I’d look for an Auroral display.

Weiser ID KiwiSDR

550 KUZZ Bakersfield // stream with Morgan Wallen song. Also heard 'Seminole Wind' by John Anderson, not matching Butte MT, so very likely KRAI Craig CO (500w) mixed with KOAC/others.
530 Radio Enciclopedia Cuba all alone, S7 level at times but has fallen back
1480 KHQN Spanish Fork UT 133W with transcendental Indian music, one of the more interesting formats on AM radio. KBMS Vancouver WA also in there

DFW, Texas Sangean ATS-909X

New loggings:
930 WFAT MI, Battle Creek 10/27 0505 CDT: Faded up to the top for several minutes. ID "Greatest Hits 102.7 The Fat One". Played Everlasting Love and Come and Get It.
1110 WTIS FL, Tampa 10/26 2030 CDT: On late. Latin music // stream. Fair to weak in KFAB null.
