Let me state first and foremost, this will not be a political post. To make it so would require this to be about 45-times longer than otherwise to refute some of Duncan's misguided opinions and observances. To call them base racism and pandering race-baiting is being kind.
Ok, now, onto the "radio" aspect of the show as a whole.
1. General sound: WERE needs to turn the bass down just a tad bit. This has been a recurring problem at WERE for a few years. Just modulating too much in the lower frequencies. A tab bit down would be wonderful.
2. Duncan's now bad; he's not great, but not bad. There have definitely been worse air personalities in this town. He's not by any means a prime AM drive personality, and needs much more practice to get there.
3. I forgot how deep Gregg Anthony's voice is. Good heavens.
4. What is with the trend (hopefully just a passing fad) of having board operators/engineers/producers on mike nowadays? Marty Allen, Scott "Scooter" Reese, and even Duncan has a horrible-voiced producer chime in every so often. As we all surely understand, there's a place for producers and a place for hosts. Most producers/board operators know more about the system's interactions (especially with computers) than jocks do. Jocks, hate to say it, normally have a good voice and an entertaining talent which got them the on-air gig. Some people have both, and those ones tend to run their own boards.
But this trend/fad of putting the producer on air has to stop, please. For the love of my ears--I can see why these guys aren't jocks. Horrible, horrible voices, diction, resonance, etc. they can handle the show, run it like a well-oiled machine, and fix any computer or sound problem that comes along like wizards! But please...no more voice work.
5. Duncan has this habit in the 8.00 hour of "recapping" what happened on the show. But it's a bit disjointed, and he tries to summarize points in an interview that surely were alot more elaborate than Duncan's short shrift gives them. And, I'm not entirely certain his summary is accurate. But whatever.
6. Traffic is provided by Ravenna Miceli, from Metro.
7. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to listen to a newscast. However, during the course of the show, Gregg Anthony is almost a "co-host" with Duncan: ala, Wills and Coleman--Wills is the lead, but Casey Coleman does more than just sports updates. So it is with Duncan and Anthony.
That's all that comes to mind now. Probably more critiques to come as I listen more.
