POWER 105.3 GOING AWAY?

You can't promise people a bigger signal (an upgrade) and then give them this. People will start to complain in 3,2,1
Guessing 2 ex-spouses can work together when $$ is involved. I'll tell you what will happen.
1.Clients will notice people complaining about how much 99.5 signal sux
2.Clients will cancel
3.Iglesia Universal will suddenly notice the coverage of 105.3 not be what they were promised
4.Power will have to come back to 105.3
5.Maybe just maybe the FCC will finally decide to check why these translators seems to feel that they don't need a primary signal.
The math is simple Iglesia universal paying 65k Guevara leasing for 35k, so they enter with a little profit.

Radio life...Let’s clear a few things up since some of you love to speculate more than you love facts.
1. SDK Franco is not run by Sarah Guevara. She is retired and has no role in the operations, strategy, or decision-making of Power FM or any other entity currently involved. The current decisions are made by her daughter Karen and son-in-law Omar Romero actual corporate structures, this is publicly verifiable.
2. Power 99.5 FM is now operated under Space City Broadcasting, a separate entity with no operational or legal connection to Hector or Sarah Guevara. It is a fully independent venture, including the pending acquisition of KSEV 700 AM, the purchase of KGBC 1540am.. Space City, power fm, is and has been for 5 years under new leadership and has nothing to do with the past drama people keep dragging up.

3. The tropospheric skip conditions have been terrible across Houston today.... That’s not a 99.5 FM issue...that’s a region-wide FM issue.

4. And for the record... signal footprint = brand strength. Radio is about content, consistency, and connection to the audience. While some of you speculate, others are building.
You can gossip, theorize, and comment all you want... but those of us actually in the industry deal with facts, not fiction.

You’re dragging up a DUI that’s already been resolved, posting mugshots like you’re TMZ, and pretending like you’ve uncovered some major scandal. News flash... the FCC doesn’t disqualify someone from being on a board just because they have a record. If that were the case, half the media industry would be wiped out... and you know it.
There are people with checkered pasts in executive and board roles across Univision, LBI, Salem, iHeart, and dozens of other Christian and secular networks. Some are divorced, some have criminal records, some have done worse... yet they’re still in power. Why? Because that’s the real world, and not every mistake means disqualification. It’s called due process.
And let’s talk Hector. Yeah, he went through a divorce. That’s not a secret. It’s been brought up a hundred times here.. so what are you trying to prove now? That people don’t get to rebuild their lives?
I’m not even a fan of fake ministers or people who exploit the faith for profit ...let’s be clear on that. It disgusts me just as much as anyone else. But don’t act like that only happens in the Hispanic market. This is everywhere ...in churches across Houston, across Texas, across the country. So what’s new?
You’re not exposing anything groundbreaking. You’re just exposing your obsession, your bitterness, and your lack of objectivity.

The license? Legit.
The nonprofit? Registered.
The board? Compliant.
The FCC? No issue.

You’re not here to protect the industry.
You’re here to settle a grudge, and honestly, it’s pathetic.
If you’ve got real proof, file it. If not, move on.

Give it a chance! I’ve known Omar for almost 30 years and he knows the market well! Wish them luck on this new frequency.

Well at least here in The Heights 99.5 sounds better than what 105.3 sounds.

Ok never mind. It was just where I was parked, once I drove away I heard skips of static as I drove.

If that format is any indication of what he knows about Houston, then he knows the market as well I know quantum mechanics (take that as you will 😅).

But with translators, knowing the market doesn't really matter as long as you can undercut your competition and sell the format to small businesses that have zero marketing knowledge. You're not selling demographics, ratings, or even coverage area. You're just selling the idea of being on the radio. And for a lot of lawyers, restaurants, and even "brujos", that's enough to buy, buy, BUY!

My limited understanding is that Sara Franco (not Guevara anymore) and her daughter Karen Guevara leased the station to Power. According to FCC documents, Sara Franco owns 20% of SDK Franco and Karen Guevara owns the rest of the 80%. (At least that's what they claimed a few years ago to the FCC)

So that dispells the talk that his wife is the sole owner of SDK Franco.

It’s always easy to criticize the ballgame from the couch...especially on a Tuesday night after spending the weekend scrolling and speculating.
Let me just say this... I know Omar. I know both sides of the families involved. I’ve worked with them, engineered for them, and done side projects with them across Houston and New Orleans. I’ve seen how they operate, flaws and all, and if you’ve been around long enough, you’d recognize that Power FM has done something that most didn’t dare to try five years ago.
They leaned into the crossover, música regional mexicana mezclada con urbano, salsa, y los sonidos que realmente conectan con nuestra comunidad. And now? Look around...KLOL and KAMA and even some of the corporates are following that same path. So laugh all you want, but the market caught up to what they were doing first.
Yes, small businesses buy. Palm readers, immigration lawyers, taco shops… you know why? Because those are the people that move the community. And if you’ve ever sold radio in Houston, you’d know that those “low-hanging fruits” are the ones keeping AM/FM alive while the big agencies chase imaginary demos with shrinking budgets.
It’s not about selling dreams. It’s about offering access..and a lot of small businesses would rather spend $2,000 with someone local who understands their hustle than $20,000 with someone who talks CPMs/Nielsen, Xtrands.. but doesn’t know their street. Power has been one of the few radio stations without changing the formats every year and program directors and personalities.... They've been pretty consistent. That's what they've been doing since day one... from imaging logos and sound etc etc...
So yeah, keep talking ratings and demographics… if they were registered to Nielsen, I promise you’d be looking at more than “brujos” on a spreadsheet.
But until then, remember:
Some of us build towers. Some of us just sit back and talk about it on radio discussions and social media...

now cmon who are you fooling? kama and klol looking up to power. As Smith would say “ keep kama and klol out of your power mouth” hahaha
And this Omar fellow, the first and last time i helped him. Stay far away.
Same thing I thought, Like the people at KAMA and KLOL listen to Power all the time. Oh hey let’s do this that Power is doing. 😂

now cmon who are you fooling? kama and klol looking up to power. As Smith would say “ keep kama and klol out of your power mouth” hahaha
I do feel as if this sort of sound on Latino Mix was invented a while ago, back when the branding was reintroduced to Univision stations as a Latin Variety CHR in 2013/2014. I'm not sure about La Mega 101 though.

Stay in your lane. Hasta el piso, hay niveles 🤣🤣 You’re out here pounding your chest like you run the market, but let’s get a few things straight.
No one ever said Power 105.3 “started a trend” that Univision or Audacy copied.
What was said is that when Power launched years ago, you and others mocked it.
“Oh, they’re all over the place. Oh, what a mess of a format.” But now look around that crossover mix of regional, urbano everyone's doing it...Klol Mega, KAMA Latino Mix, and others all jumped on the same wave.
So o, no one said Univision copied Power...but Power was ahead of the curve,
and now the market has simply caught up.
And you Mr. Univision Engineer, love talking like you’re untouchable because you work for a major company. But let’s look closer:
Your big monster stick, 104.9 KAMA, full market signal, once worth $75 million…
is now getting chased down by Sol Radio LOL
a small translator that doesn’t even cover the full 610 loop....That translator doesn’t even reach parts of Pasadena. It’s a fraction of your coverage...and it’s still making noise.
Oh, and by the way? Sol Radio rents that station from Omar In pasadena, the same guy you’ve been mocking online.
So while you're out here making fun of “brujos” and taqueros buying airtime,
those same people are building formats, covering payrolls, and getting traction,
with less signal and more hustle.
Meanwhile, you’re proudly employed by a company, that swaps out talent like printer paper, and whose "big brand" stations are slightly winning over small transalators...
Keep swinging from your corporate tower,
but don’t forget you’re now on the same playing field as the very people you laughed at five years ago "Estrella Media" Rim shots beating you guys... After the tower came down KLTN ar not so big lol...
And if the trends continue, you might be asking one of them for a job soon.
Respect the field. Stay humble. Y cuida lo que dices… porque el juego cambia in a blink of an eye...

Ok all that is great! But what good is that if the station is still Illegal.. Or please do tell us what is the primary station for the 99.5 Translators? I don't know many of the people involved personally but for sure I think they have had many chances to stay legal, and they have complete disregard for the FCC Rules.
