I have to agree on Tony on this. Mr. Cee's show Throwback at noon on Hot 97 is one of the highest rated shows. And FunkMaster Flex's show is a must listen. And yes the numbers have dropped at Hot 97 and Power Kevin. That can be attributed to WBLS,KISS FM, Z 100, and KTU now playing Hip Hop Music. When Hip Hop music was doing well in the ratings, those stations weren't really playing Hip Hop except for KISS and BLS. But Urban Music is still in the top ten in most markets. And Kevin, I'm quite sure that all listeners that grew up on this music would love to hear this music on a terrestrial station, mixed in with Classic Soul and R&B. And Kevin, where did you get your info?Tony Santiago said:Power was always like that from day one, moreso than Hot 97.
Whereas Hot concentrated more on current hip-hop, Power mixed it up on a 70 current/30 recurrent-classic basis. It would be VERY interesting to see a classic hip-hop station happen on standard terrestrial; there is certainly a lot of history with the music where a station like that can be successful, especially in the market where hip-hop was born.
I don't see Power tweaking totally to classic hip-hop...YET. Hot 97 could do it as well, they had the "Throwback" on HD-2 so the potential is there.

I don't see the day coming for New York or any market to get a Classic Hip-Hop station. Look at the numbers for (Hot 97) WQHT & (Power 105.1) WWPR-FM they've dropped.
I've heard that Rap music is dying and is being replaced by Heavy Metal. The kids who were mostly White suburban and even urban that purchased 70% of rap CDs are listening to rock.
When a music genre loses most of its base that places that music in trouble.Rap music or any music is dead without Whites making up the majority of its supporters.
Thanks,

From your post, I can tell you know absolutely nothing about me to make such a statement. How long have you been reading or posting on this board? Do you read or post on the NYRMB? I suppose you don't.
If you've been reading my post on this board and the NYRMB, you can tell that on occasion I post about WNEW-AM a station for which I'm passionate about for their Pop Standards/MOR format.
The White youth population still make up a substantial (if not majority) part of the population under 18. Hip-Hop had its best days when suburban White kids were purchasing 50 Cent and Eminem CDs.
I would love to see more Standards stations come up. But people who grew up with that music are dying off.
Thanks,
