POWER 106

Has Power 106 steer more towards Pop and Dance crossover within the last few years then being all Hip Hop music like 10 years ago? It's seems 106 KMEL in San Francisco is more Hip Hop R&B than Power 106 in LA. What do you think. Also, I notice POWER 106 is more Rhythmic friendly than their sister station HOT 97 in New York.

Not saying that the station is bad or anything, but they sure aren't like Hot 97 or even Hot 107.9 ATL. They should remove the "Where Hip-Hop Lives" slogan and put in "LA's Party Station" or "LA's Hits and Hip Hop". Other than that, the station is okay but I don't like how they act like a CHR at times... unfortunately, it's not any different from the other hip-hop stations in the West coast. :(

Well, given the recent PPMs, KPWR must be succeeding with the broader Rhythmic product. Either that or they are sending a message to KAMP as to who is the true Rhythmic in Southern California.

Where have you been, man?! Has Power finally ridded themselves of that lousy "Where Hip Hop Lives" slogan?

Remember when they were "LA's Fresh New Music Mix?"

And then "LA's Hottest Music?"

Those were sure the days!

Power 106 back then sounded great... I was a lot younger back then and always listened. Unfortunately it's not the same these days...

Power 106 has done a remarkable job of reinventing itself over the years. They have stumbled a few times but never for long. "Where hip hop lives" may be nearing its end as a slogan because Power is definitely leaning more towards mainstream pop and dance. I don't think they want to lose their hip hop fan base so I would go with "Hits and Hip Hop".

Wasn't it just a few months/weeks ago someone was saying they went more urban sounding and showed us the yes dot com plays to back it up? Then I listened and noticed the amount of hip hop hits they were playing which out numbered the dance and pop. I don't think they actually added more hip hop hits, but instead started playing certain pop or dance hits less, although they still sound extremely rhythmic today (once again). As much sense as it may make to remove the slogan, I also don't know how much sense it would REALLY make to be the hip hop leader in L.A., but remove the slogan and adopt something that will make them sound more like any other chr in town (although I don't mind them going more rhythmic at all). Even though the hip hop era has come to an end and the next trend / big thing in sound is rapidly taking over, I don't think the "Where Hip Hop Lives" slogan is hurting them too much. After all, it's been years that they've been "where hip hop lives", even during the times of being LA's Party Station. Maybe it may be time to move on and change with the times and let go of the slogan, but then again, unlike the past, KPWR is now the only station that goes the deepest into current urban hits. I guess they could always be like KKFR and just have no slogan.

i just noticed power is now streaming. Do u know since when ?

Somebody from Power needs to go fix the rhythmic / top 40 situation in Atlanta. I'm not giving up this fight this time around! If anyone reading this has the skill to be music director / program director of a true rhythmic or rhythmic top 40 station and are willing to travel / relocate, PLEASE at least consider trying to get in and help Atlanta "get it right".

Someone from Power can't help a southern station...i heard they SUPPORT LOCAL artists down there.

Literally, I know they can't help. It was just a way of saying Atl is still in need of a proper rhythmic format.... BUT... it would be nice if my post here did just happen to inspire someone from L.A. to be willing to relocate and "fix the Atlanta market chr rhythmic top 40 situation".. ;D

After all, similar things have happened in the radio business before...
