Power 96.1 - Atlanta's New Hit Music Station

If this is really happening--and let's hope--Clear Channel realized what the PPM has been telling them. Wild getting great ratings on a signal that can't be heard clearly in major parts of the market told them that Atlanta is starving for a real CHR. It's Clear Channel's chance to really break into the top 10 in the market that's been their achilles heel. Finally, CC is making a logical decision.

If Project moved to 105.3, that would be a good decision also. That signal is solid but not as good as 96.1, and fits a niche station really well. We haven't learned this will happen, but CC would be smart to keep El Patron and move it to 105.7, which covers Gwinnett. El Patron's ratings haven't been good, but they get on virtually every Hispanic buy that's placed in this market.

According to Project's Facebook page:

96.1 has been Atlanta’s rock destination since 1974. The Project Family is so proud to have carved out our own chapter in the rich legacy of WKLS. The radio dial will sound much different after today. We can never thank you enough for a
ll your support and passion for Project 9-6-1 over the past 6 years and for 96rock the years before us. We consider ourselves among the luckiest each and every day we were allowed to enter this studio and create a radio station that made us proud. Thank you for inviting The Project into your cars, jobs and homes. Thank you for Living Loud and Playing Hard, please don’t stop. Most of all, thank you for being Part of the Project! –theOC

There are pictures of "goodbye" and "the end is at hand" below. I don't think it's going to 105.3, or it'd already be there.

Interesting. You could be right. All we seem to know for sure is Power 96.1.

A station that is moving to another frequency would simulcast for a while. Not just go away then come back on another frequency. I think Project is dead.

Oldies/Classic Hits on 105.7 makes perfect sense.

Project is moving to 105.3 FM.... 96.1 is the new CHR ATL 94.9 still with the BULL AM 640 still doing newstalk on WGST so what 96.7 and 105.7 will be?

Man, say what you will about social networking, but I am just having a blast reading all of the outraged comments on Project's Facebook page. Call it schadenfreude if you want to, but I'm really more entertained by the uninformed opinions about the radio industry.

Last 8 songs, from first to last:

8. Linkin Park - Burn It Down
7. Offspring - Come Out And Play
6. Everclear - Santa Monica
5. Jimi Hendrix Experience - All Along The Watchtower
4. P.o.d. - Lost In Forever
3. Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right
2. Pantera - Walk
1. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

Wasn't listening: did they do anything special, like a brief retrospective? Was there any mention of the change on air?

Now, "Win Win Win", by some rapper. If they were moving, they wouldnt have played sad songs.
