Power 96-2...wow, what is it?

Extended Mixes Work at Abercrombie and Kenneth Cole, etc.

I agree with Z. I'm very pleased with what I'm hearing so far on Power 96-2.
I think the Miami crowd also doesn't mind some extended mixes, as it gives them that instant feeling of listening to real Dance music, or that they're in touch with their local club scene.
Also, if you step into a lot of clothing stores you will hear those extended mixes as well. I don't see customers running out in a panic if they don't recognize the first 45 seconds. On the contrary - a lot of girls really get into the music, they have this uplifting feeling, and are all pumped up to buy more clothes LOL.

Re: Extended Mixes Work at Abercrombie and Kenneth Cole, etc.

Yes, but that is background music, it's part of the whole ambiance of the store. The reason much of it is lyricaless is to ensure that the shopper stays focused on burning up their Visa balance.

Come on man, it's more then that. They could have put Hard Rock, Hip Hop, or Top 40, but they chose Dance music.
Don't you think you've been a little more pessimistic then usual on the board lately?

anything that is remotely positive about this genre on this board turns into one big pile of sh1t.

I didn't clock it, but there was a pretty long mix of Say Hello on last night that seemed like 10 minutes.
It was a nice mix and I'm not complaining, but it is possible.

LOL Russ buddy, you're not exactly helping here with "positive" comments like that one.

Re: Extended Mixes Work at Abercrombie and Kenneth Cole, etc.

I sure have, if only for the reason of making people talk. I also expect the strong anti-X posts, but thats cool. Thats what makes this forum work.

Up the street at the Eatons Centre here in downtown Toronto, the shops seem to play hiphop or dance. Why not rock? Well rock and Top 40 aren't seen as "avant garde". Dance is.

The stores playing Dance music tend to be aimed at women, and it's pretty common knowledge that dance is a more femalish style of music. Stores selling shoes & other fashion want to appear hip and trendy, and electronica has that feeling to it. Yes, rap music does, but there is always that feeling that Candyshop or harder rap might alienate the shopper. While some women are immune to the rants of 50 cent and his mental masterbation, other women may find it offensive. As a business owner, would you want to offend your customer when they walk in the store and hear "I'll let you lick the lollipop".

I highly doubt much consideration is given to the length of the tracks being played. It's all about an appealing, non offense ambiance. Only store I see where they really pay attention to hte music is Guess on Yonge. They've got turntables and the music is a huge part of the shopping experience.

If I owned a shoe store full of women, I'd find something "femme" and something not offensive, and I'd choose dance of any type.

Well try to keep those Milky records to a minumum please LOL, she's not all that man ;)

Re: Extended Mixes Work at Abercrombie and Kenneth Cole, etc.

LOL, well I like that song. I hear it on Sirius 66 all the time. It's not great, but man, it's catchy. It's a girly song :?)

Off topic, but ever had a huge craving for tandoori chicken?

A good cajun chicken sandwich is more my thing, but tandori sounds like something I should try.

I think the station is great so far.
Only three complaints:
1. It doesn't tell you what's playing now.
2. It doesn't list recent songs played.
3. I like Kelly Osborne's One Word, but not once every hour.

I might just move to Miami and get an HD receiver, Seriously... there is nothing keeping me here in Indiana at this time. I wont need a House, or Electricity to enjoy Power 96 HD in the car.lol. Maybe I get a job at a Miami Booby bar...lol..... And park and sleep on the beach.

Haha, you're not alone... one of my best friends is leaving South Bend to move to Miami at the end of September (not because of Dash 2 though... lol). I have a place to visit and crash now!! Beaches, warm weather, clubbing paradise... why ask why?

I did a Sparatic move to Myrtle BEACH S.C, a few years ago, It would have worked out better if I had moved in the spring instead of winter, when the jobs were all laying off, and letting people go

What I'm saying is that if this is what they're calling a dance music station and other potential flippers listen to it they're not going to get it, it's a bad example. It's not going to make them a dime either. There's not a tremendous amount of people you're going to get listening to this format. In fact, it's as if the days of disco are back. I remember the long versions of Love In C Minor or other disco classics being played on the air on disco stations that were 14 minutes plus. The ability to play music goes to about 4 an hour. The ability to run spots is even worse.

Barry is gay. Chris is straight. A lot of people thought they were both gay.
