Power back at 96.1fm (HD2)

Power 105.3 also has dropped Jubal in favor of music-intensive mornings (with no jock as of now). And the evening personality, Mi Keith, was replaced by iHeart's syndicated "The VBros." Otis in afternoon drive is the only live, local jock.

A format flip, however, is not in the works.
No matter how much we rant about this ( 😂 me) nothing will happen. iHeart sees dollar signs when it comes to format flips. "Screw you and what the customer wants" mentality is what we now live in, I believe.

iHeart should have been smart and physically moved Jubal to the Eastern time zone. Bits and segments from yesterday can be lacking especially when going up against The Burt Show. Starting a show at 3am on the west coast would really be hard to adjust to.

One would think iHeart would have a "national" morning show for CHR like Bones in Nashville for country that they could plug into Atlanta. Don't pretend to be local.
I got it, call it the "Delta Morning Show".....By the way Isn't Jubal based out of Seattle?

I honestly think that being local is just not part of Power's identity. If they cared enough, they wouldn't have moved Power 96.1 to 105.3 and then promote them on 96.1-2 because their numbers aren't great. Like c'mon who says to people, "hey do you listen to Power on HD2?" LOL

Yeah I just don't get it. For a while, iHeart CHR, WHQC/Charlotte dipped down to below 1.5 in the ratings. But they hung on, and now have gone back up to 2.5. I'm getting closer to Beasley CHR WNKS.

My point is if Power961 would have just hung on a bit longer, and maybe put Elvis back on in the mornings.... Things would've worked out. Personally I would have gone with the Kidd Kraddick morning show as it tends to air on more Southern stations. Or... are Ace&TJ still around? That could work here. 🤔

Local is not an issue. The Jubal show bits we heard are over 20 hours old. As to the quality of the show that is subjective but doing Mornings on a station that was severely downgraded then getting pulled from one of your own company's stations is not an endorsement. Of course he was going up against The Bert Show who has a good track record. A music intensive show can be done days or even a week in advance, but IMHO the super heavy talk shows that sooner or later will get into current events needs to be mostly live and not "day old". That being said an announced "best of" while someone's on vacation works sometimes.

Does WWPW’s transmitter have a null to the northeast? I was picking it up in full HD all the way down to Union Springs, AL this morning which is 120 miles SW of Newnan where the tower is located. As soon as I got to Spaghetti Junction, the signal was starting to fade which is only about 30 miles NE of Newnan.

Their transmitter’s down by Newnan, so it makes sense. They have to contend with co-channel WSGC in Tignall, plus spacing with K-Love’s Clermont signal next door.

105.3 has always been iffy in Gwinnett. Too bad Clear Channel sold 105.1 off. It would have made a decent dual signal. With all of K-Love's acquisitions, I wonder if they could buy it back.

I noticed this too, maybe they should change their name to "Hits 105.3". Ties in better if they are going more on the Throwbacks trend. Top 40 today sucks. Gosh, I am embarrassed, with the exception of Teddy Swims ;)

This week they added Alex Warren’s “Ordinary.” Very good song. Wide variety of hits here. I would say 75% of the throwbacks are Rhythmic. The current playlist is still mainstream top 40 - but with the mix of throwbacks it appears to be limited to the latest top 10 hits.

I listen to Power 105.3 on iHeartRadio because that signal is just not happening in Buford and Flowery Branch. Their playlist sounds amazing lately. Especially since Q997 is completely ignoring hit songs like "Squabble Up", "Denial is a River" etc. Love the throwbacks as well. Wish they would've held out and stayed on 961. Q is okay... I guess one of my pet peeves is a CHR that doesn't actually play ALL the hits. But alas... It's the only full market CHR Atlanta has to choose from... again!

Yes agree on all points and 96.1 HD2’s audio is too compressed. I was listening to Q99.7’s sister station WZNS in Fort Walton Beach last week and it is a carbon copy of Q - minus the Bert Show.

Today it was announced that Jubal has changed syndicators:

He's still on iHeart's Kiss in Seattle. But not syndicated by iHeart anymore.

John Garabedian must really love radio. He's in his 80's and developed Liveline, is launching (with partners) Radiocraft LLC, and recently purchased (and upgraded) WJIB. I doubt he really has to work.

And by the way, I recommend his autobiography. Parts of it read like a thriller.
